Mornin' boys.  Cloudy (due to Jose) & 60 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Doing my narrator duties next 3.  Hosted cards with some of the co-workers Wednesday night.  Big Boss asked me to help out with brakeman duties next day with a MOW train, 0700.  When I arrived, briefed engineer that he may see a "colorful display" coming off the covered hopper we were using...  He didn't.

Leaves are changing a bit early here.

Good evening all,

For the first time in 21 years of soccer, a team from Greensburg beat a team from Columbus!   The Junior high bunch won 4-0 against a team that pounded them last year.  They are now 6-6 and if they win the final game next week, they will be the first team since the boys went to Semi-state to finish over .500.  "My" soccer boys and soccer girls both lost tonight, boys 15-0 and the girls 5-1.   Ouch!  Busy day at work and hot and muggy.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Bob Keller

I've had some complaints about the dog rescue group discussion. While I feel that the discussion is pretty much stuffed full of blueberry muffins, it does not violate any forum rules; it clearly has rankled some forum members. And in an open disclosure, my last seven dogs have been rescues. Perhaps this is a topic best left to other forums. 'just say'in.

Bob, it is diversity that makes for a good forum. No offence was intended but just straight talk of how I was raised. I did not decide to shoot dogs that messed with livestock or chased cars, I don't run a rescue place.. I just watched. Others can and should see things different. I can take it. I still don’t like the way some of these places handle dog rescue for profit. But I can’t change the world. As for being correct,,,,,,,,Correct is in the eye of the beholder.
So to change the subject, I made some calls today to get burial plots for the wife and I. Another subject some may not have the ability to want to talk about but why leave it to your loved ones to figure it out after the fact??
Still looking at dogs from down state. Who knows?
This forum is an open discussion as I understand it, if that has changed, just let me know!
 Have a good one!

Morning team!

Wow, slept in this morning for the first time in many months. Feels great but the head is pretty foggy. More coffee!

It hit 99 here at the airport yesterday, but only 97 at the house! Temps will not drop until sometime late next week. Late Sept early Oct can be a really ugly time of year here...

Kev - you got me thinking about the flu shot for this year.

Regards, Roy

Aloha. Another warm, sunny day! I will miss this in January - except it will encourage me to play with the trains in the basement. Looking forward to meeting an exterminator tomorrow morning to get rid of a wasp nest in the side of the house.

Wake up!

73 already heading to mid 90 again. Seems like August and September have got their weather swapped. Will have 90s till the middle of next week.

Mini motor cycle battery should arrive today. Got the inner tube yesterday and got the wheels back on it. So I should know if it will run by tomorrow or if I need to get a new controller for it.

Boy my arm is sore from the flue and pneumococcal shots I got yesterday. Ouch!

Best move on.

Good evening all,

Slow day at work.  Hot day outside.  Got two phone calls late last night after posting.  One was from wife's brother in the Phillipines and the other was a relative who I had not seen in 20 to 30 years.  Turns out his mother (who I did know) had passed away.  It was good to talk to him again but obviously not under these circumstances.   Chief, my condolences on father-in-law.   Last home game for high school boys Thursday night.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

i have a friend who works at a shelter who says the 'adoption' paperwork (albeit sometimes overdone) is to discourage those who scoop up dogs for fighting them or other nefarious purposes. They are also supposed to help weed out spur-of-the-moment decisions that end up with a quickly returned dog, and to walk a family with other pets or young kids through all the consequences.

Our current pup is a rescue - who probably ran away. I didn't mind paying a chunk of $ to get him fixed and help keep the shelter going.

I am with you Doug on making people know what they are getting into. But I was raised on a farm and a dog is a dog. If one chased a car or messed with livestock it got buckshot lesson #1. Lesson # 2, well you would not like that.  I have had more than 6 dogs in my life,,,,all mutts but all good dogs. I am not that mean but we don’t live in the city and have acreage and I am not going to have a dog here on a leash. One nice thing by where you are is there are tons of places with rescue dogs. Out here not so much. Most are like Dennis said Pitbulls or Chihuahuas. The Aurora IL rescue only has Pitbulls. No thanks.  The problem of good intentions gone bad.
Brent, your right on full bread dogs. I have never had one but most I know who have had,  have had nothing but issues with inbread issues.

Afternoon fellas

Made the trip to Dallas and back OK. Wasn't feeling well, but managed through it. Went to Gas Monkey Bar & Grill for dinner on Wednesday - pretty good food, was surprised. Bought a T and a workshirt. Thursday I was able to hook up with my ex-coworker. Good to see him. We hit up Hard 8 BBQ in Coppell... very tasty. Not quite as good as Mission BBQ here in MD, but pretty much neck-n-neck as different types of BBQ. Good thing Hard 8 isn't here cause I would rotate between the two daily. LOL

Kev - that is cheep compared to prices for pure-breds... I don't get it either. Almost as bad as adopting a kid... and no one is coming to my home for a 'home visit' for me to adopt a dog.

Chief - sorry to hear about your FiL.

Banks - sorry to hear about you boss. That's what took TheQ's mother 11 years ago.

Good morning,

66 heading to 90 today with a butt chewing at the Dr office at 11:00. Normal high for today should be 73. Huh?

Saw my first combine with a bean head heading up the road today so harvest is starting.  Yes

We have been looking at used dogs and those rescue places are just rip offs.

Very few we have seen are abused dogs, most are runaways. Sounded like a good idea but, Rescue dogs are a money grab where you get a stupid dog for dumber people. If they were good smart dogs they would not be in a rescue place in the first place. And they complain about puppy mills.

Guess I will get a dog the old fashion way. Pick it up off the street. Whistling

Get this letter I got from a rescue????? WTH??

Thank you for your inquiry. Our adoption process starts with your completing the attached application. Please let "your references" know I will be contacting them. Once you pass all your reference checks, I will schedule a home visit for you. The whole family needs to be present for that visit. When you pass the home visit, you will be officially approved to adopt!  ?????

Our adoption fee for adult dogs is $200.00. We also require a FULLY REFUNDABLE obedience deposit ?????   in the amount of $150.00. Once "you" complete obedience training within 6 mos from the adoption, we will either rip up the check or mail it back to you. F&$#That!!!!!

I look forward to receiving your completed adoption application.  Not a chance!!!!!!!
Come on it is a dog!!!! not a child and a dumb dog at that!!!

Good evening all,

Somehow it is fitting that this is talk like a Pirate day as the junior high team played a classic match.   School mascot is a pirate by the way.   The team jumped out to a 5-0 lead, then watched as the other team made a 5-1 run and then sealed the deal with a 3-0 run to win 9-5 at the "All American" sport.  The cowbell was ringing.....a lot.   The crowd was rocking and the intensity was high.  Nice to be on the right side of the scoreboard after a struggle like this one.   Work was busy.  Weather was rainy but dry when it needed to be.   Hot temps return this week.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Arrrrrr,
Got .3" of rain over night. First rain in over 6 weeks.  Can't tell it rained now. When we lit the leaves on fire yesterday it was like a war zone from the acorns and other nuts popping. Walking to the shed is like roller skating. Walking around here can be deadly with all the nuts falling and on the ground, but I can take the acorns,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,it is the Walnuts that hurt!!!!  Surprise  Bang Head
Praying for you DougDG and for you and your wife’s family Chief. Angel

Holy frijoles, it's National Cheeseburger Day!

Wouldn't you know it , I'm doing Mexican food for dinner. Does Bacon cheese burgers nite before last count ?

Got the results from my biopsy today. Came back positive and the doctor said it is in an area that is extremely difficult for a surgical removal. although she is going to check with the only surgeon that she would trust to do it for his opinion. It can be treated with meds but they don't cure they only more or less shrink and slow or stop the growth. Will be seeing the oncologist on Wednesday for his thoughts on tackling the issue.

Prayers for all in need.

Mornin' boys.  63 and fog burning off along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Long day yesterday at the RR; felt like Odysseus.  Horroscope said to avoid "fiery" issues at work today. "Check".  Perhaps work on my own RR today...

I like watching dvr'd Ravens games.

Wouldn't mind seeing the 78 win it all.

Good morning,
Have grand-son Jordan today and last night. We worked on his mini motorcycle yesterday. Cleaning parts and getting it ready to roll.
Today we will do leaves for the first time this year.
Wake yesterday went as well as I could hope for. Was good to make peace with Russ’s wife and myself about things. We did not have to discuss it, it was just understood when we saw each other. Saw some friends I have not seen since we moved out of Plainfield so that was a plus.
I hear you Chief, seems someone always needs to add un-needed or wanted drama to an already bad deal. Prayers for your family. Angel
Banks, best of luck on the job front. Fear of the unknown you know.
Roy, what I like about Truex is It is a one car team I think. Yes
RT good deal on the washer.
Well a little guy just got out of bed so I best get moving.
