Evening All.

Ray, Prayers for you and the Mrs.

Don, The most pressing question on the Chief's housing selection was who gets the bigger house and who gets the "little" house. Clown

Doug M., I have gotten several e-mails in the past with rather suspicious domain name. Believe somebody may have hacked your e-mail addy and it's address file.

Looks as though the rain has stopped for awhile, I hope. These storms have really been an economic stimulus for home/roofing repairs, auto body shops and tree removal crews.

Aside from the weather it has been pretty much a mixed bag this week for the family. The "BetterHalf" had a very successful cataract procedure, the other eye will probably be done in late March or early April. Made a visit to the vampires Wednesday for a blood draw, a few of the results are a concern to the Doc's. Will have to see what they have in mind to resolve the issues. Had my first quarterly cancer CT on Friday and it came out clean, no cancer found. Thumbs UpThumbs Up

Be snowing like crazy up in Truckee, no sign of any rail traffic as the rails are covered over with snow.

http://tahoetopia.com/webcam/downtown-truckee   Just looked in at 6:10pm Pac Time and it looked like maybe a Jordan Spreader just rolled thru town. There is so much "stuff" on the lens it is difficult to make it out clearly.

Had the munchkin here overnight, waffles & bacon for breakfast. Can't believe he is eleven years old already. We all went out for dinner last night to celebrate mine and our daughter's B'days, mine the 11th and hers on the 12th. A fun evening was had by all.

Gotta run, later all.

Good morning,

Light rain overnight. Already 57, and heading to 67, crazy weather for February!!! Cloudy today and even warmer tomorrow. Mid 70s I will take it.

The TrainSounds boxcar, a NOS horn for the Wabash and the #53 snowplow all show out for delivery.

House is quiet with the kids gone home.

Picked up another set of shelves yesterday at Menards for train boxes in the basement and cleaned up a bunch of stuff that I need to take to the dumpster later today. Not a lot else.

DougDG, sounds like you had a okay birthday. Yes

Good morning

Have not been on here for a few days, sorry. Any way the temp down here is very hot for February, on Sunday it got up to 88 degrees here in West Palm Beach FL.

Been doing a little work around the house the past 2 days. Still trying to get the H.O. layout set up. The H.O. layout is going to be a pull down one from the wall.

Worked on the main O gauge layout some and installed lighting in another of my buildings, this one is on the elevated level.

Afternoon all!

Sunny and 70's today. 80's for Wed and Thurs and then a cool front Fri. News said we are about 30% less freezing "days" (i.e. nights ha-ha) this winter than the lowest number of winter freezing days on record. The grass is growing/greening up - argh! The good news is I did the weed pre-emergent treatment very early this year! Had a hunch...

York - it will probably be snowing there in April - end of April no less!

Hey Fife - what is the answer????

DougNG - happy belated Happy B-Day

Mike C - Congrats on the new vehicle!

Dennis - HO - oh the humanity!

Good day,

Got the new horn in the 2339 Wabash, installed the E-unit in the 8111 DT&I and the TrainSounds box car was NIB but the box was in scary shape.

The #53 Snowplow looks great, she is back together and on the layout. Thanks to the help from Hudson John.

Heading to town to get some beer.  Beer

Doug M., I have gotten several e-mails in the past with rather suspicious domain name. Believe somebody may have hacked your e-mail addy and it's address file.

Doug and others, alot of times this caomes about because of sharing emails and not deleting the other emails addresses from it before you forward it. I usually copy the message and start a new one.

What they do is they will take the part before the @ and make a email address with that and usually add a virus of some type to it. You will normally not look at the whole email address just the part the identifies the person you think it is. Thats how they get you. If I don't think the Email address looks correct I check with my address book on my mail server.

Evening all. Not to much to report tonight. I cut the grass ( yes in February ( crazy isn't it ) and fell 1/2 a tree today. the other 1/2 is still alive and wife won't let me drop it till it dies ( it's still alive it may make it ) Me " it has a virus/blight its going to die) so my luck will be , come middle of summer it will die, when it's the hottest, ugh.

Hope all had a good day talk to you all later.

Aloha from a foggy downtown Chicago. What a cool trivia q&a, Fife! I had no idea. Sorry about the spam: fortunately, it's not my email address. That's been out there for so many years, it's inevitable that someone is trying to spoof it - I'm glad your filters pick it up as bad. This may be the last day of almost a week of temps 30-35 above normal. Oh well. Nothing else exciting going on.

Mornin' Fellas

Not mucha happenin around these parts these days... other than the temp being in the upper 60s! Matthew is signed up for T-Ball and my little sister and BiL bought him a T-Ball set for his birthday. He and Christina have been playing and getting better at hitting the ball. Now to work on feilding technique! Maybe I'll have a Derrick Jeter on my hands? Christina is signed up for soccer... we'll see how that goes, she does a good job dribbling the ball and lining up for a kick, just need to work on aiming toward the goal. Spring is going to be very, very, very, busy.

Nice Fife. Good trivia question.

Not a lot planned for today. There calling for 40% chance of rain this afternoon. 69* going to 73* . Our Freezer is suppose to come in Today so we will probably go get it tomorrow if it is in. Then I have a tiller/cultivator ( our gardens are small like 3' wide at most. ) coming in Saturday. And there delivering a pole saw next week sometime.

Hope all having a good day. Talk to you all later

Good morning all,  not much new here.  Just going through the usual routine of doing what I can at home and visiting Helen in the afternoon.  One new item was that my old refrigerator died yesterday.  Went out and bought a new one which will be delivered tomorrow.  Nowadays they cost more and look cheaper.  I'm going to try and salvage some of the inserts in the old one and see if I can use them in the new one.  They don't make em like they used to.  That's no surprise.

Good afternoon from 60+°F Southern Ohio,

Overcast and a misty rain off and on. This is a quick check in.

I’ve been super busy at work now that I’m qualified I am back in the field a lot more, but I still am getting additional training because for the additional training you have to be a qualified supervisor first.  Oh well the day flys by.  Basketball is wrapping up and baseball is ramping up for the boy.

I remember your needs in my prayers

May God bless

Good afternoon.

We too have been having some crazy weather down here in south Florida. It was 88 on Sunday afternoon and today it is raining and will be lucky to see 78. Has rained for almost 3 hours today and that is not normal for south Florida, maybe rain for an hour and that's it unless we get a hurricane.

Worked on the layout some more in the past 2 days. Hooked up wires to one of my elevated houses. Also trying to put up another shelf in the hallway.

cheapclassics - Can we give Princess Sparklepony back to open wheel.  All she has accomplished in stock cars...well, a disolved marriage...  Still can't figure out how she made the CLASH.

Fife, today's headlines, and I see Sparklepony is braging about all of her
concussions. No wonder, what else has she got to brag on?

Is there a set of races tomorrow. Still better than the make me nod out race at Indy.

It was so much better when people could hit each other and maybe get hurt. More like no touch flag football today.

Good evening all,

Great day at work as I got a task done while missing a person who had been considered essential before.  It was good knowing that not everyone is needed for stuff.  Takes a lot of pressure off in terms of scheduling jobs.  Good weather for a walk.  Was supposed to scrimmage with the high school kids tonight but no one showed.   Did do a half mile "speed" run with not much speed to show for it.  Interesting observations here on NASCAR and racing in general.  Wife recently bought me a book on the first 100 races at Indy.   So sad to read that so many years had one or more fatalities either in the race or practice.   Nowadays we are so used to safety that a Dan Wheldon or Justin Wilson incident brings us up short.  Should be a quiet day at work tomorrow and then a 3 day weekend!  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good evening all,  we are having our Winter now.  Cool days and cooler nights but not freezing.  After all this is California.  More rain predicted this weekend.  Next door neighbor has been busy building diversion drain pipes to channel the water away from his foundation.  Only problem is that it is aimed at me.  I don't think it will be a big problem though.  It should flow on down the property line.  Worse case scenerio is that I might get more water behind my garage but I have a sump pump back there.  Suppose to get my new refrigerator delivered tomorrow.  Hope so because I'm running out of ice.

Mornin' boys.  Partly cloudy and 55 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Took advantage of the beautiful weather and went hiking along the canal yesterday.  Also broke out my fishing rod and caught a couple fish near Welton tunnel.  Fifemax and I helped our older neighbors remove a fallen tree from across their driveway.  Maybe do it all again today.  Not the fallen tree part.  The other stuff.

NASCAR qualifying races are tonight at 7.  Usually entertaining.  The new sponsor, MOnster Energy, is gonna try to appeal to a younger audience, which is probably smart.  I see the sport migrating back to it's southern strongholds before long.

88 - It is easy to over-extend on the organized activities.  Pace thyself.

SPMan - Let your neighbor know about your drainage concern.  You already have enough on your plate.

Good morning,

51 degrees and heading down all day, the party is over. Maybe a warm one tomorrow but snow by Saturday sending all the cold to points east ASAP.
Ray, I agree with Fife, you have to much else going on to worry about your neighbor’s water. Here it is against the law to displace water onto your neighbor’s property.
Good points on the early days of racing Mike. As far as that goes the early days of driving. Racing safety improvements have been to the benefit of all people driving.

Afternoon all!

Gonna top 90 today! Super record - back to seasonal 50's Sat.

Gotta agree NASCAR is losing it. That WSJ article showed the decline starting when two things in my opinion happened. 1. Tracks overbuilt seating and raised prices ridiculously and during a recession to boot! 2. They started splitting the television rights across 3 networks - making it impossible to see all the races since the cable companies make sure (still doing it) that to see all the races one must upgrade their sports package as ESPN is in one tier and FS1 is in another. So they stiff you for the upgrade. As a side note - they also added more races across the country so the hard core RV crowd that made all the races in the east cannot practically make many of the races - plus a few years back when gas hit $4/gal all my RV friends parked them for quite a while.

Good Evening from beautiful 75°F Southern Ohio,

I cannot remember a more beautiful February day.  Praise be to God!

Next week I'm going to be working 4, 12 hour day shifts, then for the next two weeks 4, 12 hour night shifts.  The company is pairing me up on shift with a veteran supervisor for the next three weeks for shadowing.  My bride is not too pleased about going back to shift work, but it is what it is.

Ray – Is you neighbor open to discussing your concern about the water?

If any of you guys going to York would be willing to keep an eye open for something for me, please send me a PM

Good night and may God bless

Your right Roy,

 After race 1,,,,well,,,

NASCAR’s new sponsor's Monster Energy Girls are a bit different than the Sprint girls. Guess they are going by the old play,,,sex sells.  Laugh Surprise
Got a order on the way from the train tender for some more fast angle wheels to install on the blue stripe passenger cars I have to see if that will make them not derail on 72" curves.

Aloha. Wow, did we have thunder and hail overnight. Poor dog is still recovering. Today is back to the cold and wet of a typical February. Though the warmth was great! I agree with what Roy said about NASCAR: it's tough to find the races on TV, they overexpanded nationally, and now they are pandering to youngsters with low attention spans (like every major sport though) with their latest changes. I was thrilled when the Joliet track was built but they raised the prices so high in just a few years, it was impossible to go (we'd go to ARCA there instead).

I saw that Doug, WOW. We did not get any of that, just some rain. 54 when I got up this morning and then the slide down to low 20s over night. Winter is back, UGH! I was lucky and had a friend who had season seats for the first ten years of Chicagoland raceway so I got in for free. Still way out of line if you wanted anything to eat or drink. Same with the drag strip.

Just got a call from our daughter,

Their cat Milo that ate the twine is back in surgery. He developed some large rock hard lumps under where they had him open and is not eating. Vet is not sure what it is but going to look and said he may not come out of it. Don't look good. At least he said he is not going to charge her and if it can't be fixed he will put him down. Won't know till tonight. Tongue Tied

Update:

Just got the word, The cat Milo died. Part of his intestines had died and he was full of abscess and that was it.

Now the daughter needs to figure out how to put it to the grand-kids. Bummer.  Tongue Tied

Hello all

Back at work for another week.

We have had some fairly warm days in town this week. I saw 82 on the car display as I was driving out of town on Wed.

We went and picked up these four wheel bogies in Phoenix to tow a couple of our trolley bodies last Friday. My friend Bill went w/ us and it was a good time. Got a nice tour from the guys at the Phoenix Trolley Museum. Small place but they have a nice display and a beautifully restored 2 truck Birney. Unfortunatley, they have to move from their current location due to development.

Spent the afternoon on Tues running a bunch of errands for the barn w/ another volunteer. We went by Jack's Gov't Surplus to see about a water pump for the GMC 270. He recalled that the GMC 302 in Korean War vintage 2 1/2 ton trucks used a similar pump. We confirmed that on a few of the trucks he had. Gave us the name of a place in Tenn where we found a rebuild kit. His yard or should I say yards, is a gear heads paradise. Literally tons of military and gov't vehicle surplus.

Our student intern was able to get the Aerocoach to go into gear on Tuesday after working on the linkage for a bit. The engine turns much easier now after puttng some marvel in the cylinders (used atf at first). Next step is to put the oil pan back on and see if we can build pressure.

Installed one of those Brita faucet filters on the motorhome kitchen sink. Had some fun getting the old aerator off, but finally got it together. Water in the barn is drinkable but not necessarily tasty.

Need to order the few parts I need for the NW2 and stuff for the AF crane car. I brought the Marx litho 897 w/ me to clean up in my spare time.

Good Evening,

Boy is it ever cold here.  And not gong to get warmer until late next week.

Had an interesting couple of days.  Yesterday, we sold one of our 5 cars.  What a relief!  Will see an appreciable difference in insurance and registration costs.  As a result going to put the El Camino back on the road.  Ended up putting a new battery and alternator on it yesterday.  Couldn't believe they wanted a $115 to install it, so I did it myself.

Then today, just after breakfast heard this loud crash, then discovered the issue.  Four 16' shelves in the train room came crashing down!  Each shelf had two rows of engines and stock cars.  The shelves have been up for eleven years.  The issues is the walls in the room.  The room is a "screned in patio", the walls are made of 4" thick foam, covered with a vinyl material.  I had a gusset board attached to the wall with adhesive and screws.  Apparently the adhesive gave up.  So far the most significant damage was to the track on the layout.  Two of the switches sustained rail damage (deformed) as a result of impact.  Some axles and a couple of trucks from some freight cars came off, and a couple of brake wheels from a couple of cabosses.  All in all very fortunate!!  No engine damage or serious damage to anything important.  (That I am aware of.)  Going to reinforce the shelving with a floor to ceiling rigid framework.  STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU CHECK YOUR SHELVING MOUNTING AND HARDWARE!  Ended up spending all day cleaning and checking for damage.

On a lighter note Chris is going to be making a raid on NC next week.  He will be spending a week at Fort Bragg doing soil core sampling in the housing area.  He is looking forward to it.

Watched the NASCAR truck race, not sure about the new format, made the race like a destruction derby, or maybe there were too many rookies.  Should be an interesting weekend.

Take care and God Bless

Don
