Aloha. Don't know why schools were off yesterday (for Buckeye's birthday?) but it's even colder today and they're back in session. Go figure. I drove the kids to school that were waiting at the corner for the bus at 21 below zero. Good basement weather. At least there's no snow on the horizon... And this is supposed to last as far as the weather-guessers can see. Yeesh.

Not much to report but just checking in. Took wife to a new doctor yesterday for her dementia problem. Very nice lady doctor who proscribed some new medication which we hope will do some good.
No news on the train front here. No time for it lately.
Grandson has been getting several offers for college scholarships. Has not decided which one yet. We are very grateful for his opportunity.
Live in son has started dating a new girl yesterday. Sounds a lot more promising than the last one. Hope he meets a good one.
Had long telphone conversation with my sister in North Carolina yesterday. She is still fighting her cancer. She is terminal and she knows it but keeps going. Gave her an update on our sitiuation. Good talk.

Good morning like Doug we are at -10 with wind chills in the -25 to 30 range.
School is closed so the wife is sleeping and the cat is outside trying his luck taking care of his business without getting stuck to the snow.
Seems they are always closing the schools for something. I never remember them shutting down for cold??
We did have a snow day once in 1967 when it snowed 26" not many others. None of the schools had AC or our houses for that matter back then.
Well got to light a fire and get moving.

RT - the BMWs were the first non-American cars I have owned. I needed something larger, with towing capacity (don't have a truck so I need to tow in order to haul something), and quite honestly the foreign options didn't hold the muster. I could have gone Toyota - but you want to talk about the most self-asorbed group of people! We have been to 3 dealerships and have had what we felt were decent offers in hand (did tons of research) and all there basically said "What is on the sticker is what we are getting", never going to a Toyota dealer again. Susan's Mazda CX-9 was nearly identical in specs to the Toyota Highlander and she drove her's off the lot for more than $10,000 less! The Durango is larger than the Highlander/Pilot/CX-9/BMW X5/Lexus/Acura MDX/GMC Acadia/Grand Cherokee but not as large as the Yukon or Tahoe... so it was perfect for my needs. All that and it has more options on it than I really needed, and the dealer gave me an excellent deal and I got 0% financing. Still want a RAM 1500 or a Silverado, but that is a few years down the road.

Brent sorry seems I only remember the BMW did you have more than one in a row maybe that would be why any way I made the mistake once I had the extended cab Silverado and got rid of it got a Cadillac srx and hated it so after a year went and got another Silverado ( all of these where used ( I don't buy new but that's another story and personal preference )

It was cold again and we even had a few flurries this afteroon, but unfortunately they did not amount to anything. I am not working this week so I am having fun with the family; the kids are also on Winter Break this week. I picked up some grass mat material for the layout. I purchased it at Hobby Lobby and with the coupon it is a great price. It's about time for bed now.

Surrounded by idiots and encapsulated by the clueless is a polite way of describing the chaos that was endured today. Details would take 10 pages to list all the insanity that is my world. Only piece of good news is that I found out I did do 8 miles Sunday in around 2 hours so the pace for the Mini is going well. Just need to add an another hour and a quarter and I am good to go. Watched the Flash tonight. It was good, but somewhat bittersweet. At least the baddy got a bit of what he deserved. Tomorrow is another day in the coal mine. I hope everyone has a good day.
