What a wonderfully outstanding day!  I had my five week follow up with the surgeon this morning and I have now been debooted (not sure if that is a word, it is now) and I can now wear two shoes and the crutches can now be moved to the basement.  The Achilles tendon has now completely healed and has successfully been reattached to the heel, what a relief.  All I need to do now is some simple PT and not jump on trampolines Clown and be cautious on stairs.  I wish I had done this surgery years ago ..........

Did I mention I can now drive?????  YES!  Thumbs Up

Cloudy and warmer but NOT warm.  Suppose to rain tonight but no freeze [close but not close enough].  Took Wifey shopping and then suddenly got text from her Niece.  She had bee trying to call Wifey and as usual, Wifey had cell on vibrate and did not hear.  We had to rush and babysit Great Nephew [7months].  His sister [7] went to dance class.  Got kids from groomer and picked up Wifey as Nana Windy had gotten there at 7:10.

Ray, I had eastern NC bar-be-que twice last week. Thumbs Up Dinner

Dennis, OUCH!!!!  Crying

Jon, now you can march in the band again. Thumbs Up Laugh

Later.

PS: all need to read this thread.  Especially Buckeye.  Seems Lionel is upgrading their customer service.  I'm sure it will be ten times better. Whistling

Good evening all,

Interesting day at work.  Some parts good, some parts not so good.  Some days I just wonder who is in charge.  Wife called Lucas today.  News not good.  Spent too much repaying student loans and did not pay "rent".  Lost all privileges.  Job may go away next month.  He is in real pickle, but he got himself there so now he has to figure way out.  Got sunny here finally.  See where Kurt Busch will try the Double.  Wonder how NASCAR will spin that one?   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

It has been raining all day and the temps dropped a bit so it has not been a pleasant day for most people, but I didn’t mind it.  I had an uneventful day at the office which was nice.  The kids have piano practice tonight so I’m keeping the youngest occupied with some games.

Jon – That’s great news about your recovery.

Mike C. – I hope things work out for Lucas.

Cloudy and chilly good morning.  No "precip".  Hope all up North are not getting more.

Not much happening today.  Wifey helps cook for Church Wed. night meal.  I have to help serve.  We have been "snowed" out three times when our turn came.

Afraid chest cold is going to finally get me.  Dusty, dry and chilly BPS in Charlotte.  Maybe heading to warmer FL this Friday will help.

Another cold morning here perhaps a reprieve on that this weekend.

Was woke this morning by the dog barking... looked outside and saw a frosty coyote headed through the yard.  Looked like he was duck hunting.

I've completed all the wiring in my basement, almost time for drywall.  Added a total of 8 circuits to the panel to power the new space.  I have the new layout drawn up, it will be in the area of 17 x 35.  Will even have some NYC for SJ Big Smile

Aloha. Snowing again. 45th day this winter - new record. Most zero and below days - new record. Closing in on 3rd most snow in 129 years of records. I felt for the conductors on our 13 car train this morning. The doors on the bi-level are mid-coach, and controlled by air from the engineer. So that broke or froze. The conductor and brakeman had to walk the train each stop and manually bleed the air from each car to open the doors. For each stop. Took forever. They looked frozen too. Hope everyone celebrated Fat Tuesday in style.

Charlie, that's great progress on the layout room um basement.

Noon Time! 34 and Sunny!

I have been busy last couple of days taking Doray to PT and Mom to the Cancer Center for her medi port flush and bone treatments. Not Complaining, glad that I can do it. No school on Monday night but I have it tonight. The only new on the train front is that I am reorganizing my parts stock. Today is my wife, Doray's Birthday.

Yes it is going on 3 years since Navy Jack passed. We used to alternate calling each other on Sundays. I really miss him. A lot of great stories and we had a lot in common.

SPMan, Ray, Doray and I watched Captain Phillips last night. Great movie. Your dinner sounded almost like mine last night!

Chief: With the winter we are having, you better believe that I am glad that I retired. lol Now if we could only get Lionel (and the rest of the manufacturers) to make their trains in the USA!

Dennis: The tax extension will work out. We have one every year because of my wife's business. Never a problem.

Doug: I remember reading 30 seconds over Tokyo also.

Jon: Great news from the Doctor!

Traindood: We should organize a meet for all the guys in our area. The weather is getting nice.

Rich: NICE Win for the Devils last night.

Charlie: Nice Progress on the Basement!

SJ: I knew you would "Help Charlie Plan the Layout".

Enjoy the Day!

Good morning all,

Sun is shinning again today and we are headed for a warm week end around 80 on Saturday.  Also have a TTOS meet on Sunday.

Ash Wednesday today.  Going to church service at 5:00PM instead of 8:30AM like we used to.  I don't think they had a 5 o'clock last year.  Anyway it's nice not to get up so early.  Not much sleep last night anyway.  Had a lot of cramps in legs that kept me awake.

Finished off the last of the pork bar-b-que I made yesterday with cole slaw on buns.Dinner  Still have some cole slaw left I will use with fish tonight.

Had another fight with medicare over my wife's denied claims.  Finally got assurance (again) that everything is OK now.  If it doesn't work this time I will file a written appeal.  They corrected the problems but they failed to tell us to notify our doctors to keep resubmitting the claims until they get paid.  One doctor had to submit 4 times before he finally got paid.  The whole thing is the fault of medicare, not me, not the doctor.  Isn't government wonderful?

later,

Ray

Charlie -- that's a wonderful amount of room to work with.  Will you do around the walls (perimeter) or big wide tables?  Also curious as to what you will do with the ceiling and lighting. You will love having that many circuits, perfect.  My favorite part of this hobby is still the planning and building.

Please keep posting pics of the progress.  Thanks!

I plan to do an around the room U shape with a folded dogbone and point to point with reversing loop for the 2 mains.

Ceiling will be sprayed flat black. I want to maintain the 9' height I have without denying myself access to pipes etc.

Lighting will consist of recessed lighting with 3000K LED's and track lighting that will either be Halogen or LED.

That's an awesome plan.  The Boss and I were talking just yesterday about our train room and I said in hindsight how I wished now that we had gone with a black ceiling instead of a suspended ceiling with can lights.  Using track lighting just opens up so many more possibilities.

What kind of time line are you looking at before the first trains run?  This sounds like a fun journey for you Thumbs Up

Good Evening!

Still hobbling around with a walker, the external fixator on my leg is a real pain!  Not actual pain just cumbersome and a pain to contend with.  Really hate it when I bump one of the rods on something, the vibration just goes directly to the bone.  Glad to hear Jon's ordeal is over and he is just going through the therapy aspect.  I have a Dr appoint on Thursday, hope to get a good report that the bone is mending.

Yesterday, Bob came over and brought some accessories that were not working.  One was a Culvert Loader and some wires were broken off a micro switch,  so fixed that.  Then had a log loader and all the wires were broken of the pc board.  Figured that out and got it working.  He said his son had broken them, but doing the repair I dont think so.  I could see where he had caused the problem, by trying to do some minor repairs.  I didn't mind repairing them, it gave me something to do and think about.

Other than that the only news, excitement around here is been with Chris.  He did well with the Oscars this year, didn't get any pizza, but still ate verry well!  And, made good money !!  He finished that on Monday, then started a new job on Tuesday as a Staff Geologist working for a local company.  His first day was a success and even spent time in the field on a job site.  He sure is happy and excited about it, and should be!  He is sitting on top of the world right now.

Have plans on going to the TTOS train meet this Sunday, Bob has some money he wants to spend and asked me to go along.  How can I refuse?  Im sure I will attract a lot of attention with my leg.  Kay made some "arrows" out of plastic straws and plastic feathers, that slide right over three of the rods that go in the leg.  It looks as if I was at Custer's last stand.  And, what is really funny is people ask what happened?  Then when I tell them I fell out of a steam engine, (especially at a train meet), you wouldn't believe the expressions on their face !

BTW, some of you may remember John Bakker from England, who posted here for awhile, well I communicate with him frequently via email.  He is doing OK, limited in activity but getting along.  If anyone would like his email address, and would like to send him a greeting, I know he would enjoy it.  Let me know and I will provide it.

Charlie, your layout plans sound really great !  I agree with Jon, planning and building is really the fun part !  Another guy I know (Lloyd, came with me the last time I was at York) builds layouts for sale, mostly HO and N.  He has a couple of O Scale jobs and has been consulting with me on track planning and setup for Legacy and DCS.  Ive enjoyed helping him out with it, even though my efforts have been non-physical at this point.  He wants me to come work with him when I can walk, so never can tell how that will work out.

I did get my White Castle kit put together, it looks pretty good.  But, I like the A&W Root Beer stand a lot better.  The good thing is that neither one of them require much space.  My next effort is going to be a scale 50,000 gal O scale water tower.  I bought the kit years ago it is all wooden, and has about 10 pages of  "Blue Prints" as assembly instructions.  It is going to be a significant effort, but looks like it will be fun.  Right now its an effort when I go out to the train room, because there is so much I want and need to do, but this hardware on my leg prevents it.  A couple of time I got down on the floor, then had difficulty figuring out how to get back up.  Oh well, could be worse !!

Take care and stay healthy !

Don

Good evening all,

Played indoor soccer tonight.  A lot of fun.  Another long day at work.  Only consolation was that I learned IT will not be bugging me for awhile, if ever.  Other issues are a mess.  Did a drive by Ashes (actually walk by) downtown Indy.  Still cold out.  Will it ever warm up?  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Charlie - you said you were going to spray the ceiling flat black - but you want to maintain the 9ft ceilings and retain access to pipes, etc. Are you going to paint everything black (pipes, duct work, electric wires, etc) or are you putting in a removable ceiling material and painting that black? Most 'drop ceilings' can now be installed very close to the floor joists...

Brent,  Drop ceilings are just not my thing.  I work underneath them every day and don't want to feel like I'm at the office.   I'm going for a more industrial look.

The floor joists, bottom of sub-floor, wiring and piping will all be sprayed flat black.  The main HVAC trunk and duct-work hanging below the joists will not be painted.

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

It was sunny all day today and the high reached the mid-40s.  The most exciting part about today is what came in the mail: a K-Line Lehigh Valley S-2 switcher I won on eBay.  I’m looking forward to giving a few laps on the UTB RR tonight or tomorrow.  The wife is at a nail salon appointment right now so I’m not sure what the dinner plans are for this evening.

Charlie – I cannot wait to see what you develop for that space.

Hudson John – I hope Doray had a great birthday.

Don – I’m glad all is going so well for Chris.  Likewise, it’s good to hear about John Bakker.

Joe

I hear you on the drop ceiling. I would check the code in your area though. I would be concerned about painting the wiring because it will make it more difficult to identify the gauge. How are you finishing the cans for the can lights?

Good morning all,

Don, glad Chris had a good experience at the Oscars and is doing well on the new job.

Got word this morning from SIL in New Hampshire that my wife's youngest brother who died in Florida recently will be buried in the Veterans Cemetery in New Hampshire per his wishes this coming Monday.  Relatives in the area will attend.

Going for hearing test this morning at 11:00AM. Huh!  Hope I don't need an aid in both ears. $.

Saw an old lady friend of ours at church last night.  She is visiting from Iowa but used to live here.  She lost her husband recently who was a WWII Vet in his 90's.  He flew B29's against Japan.  We will get together with her and others at a brunch on Sunday after church.

later,

Ray
