Good morning (well it is here still). It's 85° with 67% humidity. It'll be partly cloudy with a high of 95° and a heat index of 106°.

Been busy this morning gathering all my FLV files into one directory. Did the same with my Car Talk MP3 files. Tonight I'll back them all up on DVD's. Together they come to 5.53 gigs. There were many duplicates which I deleted. I'll figure out later how much disc space that recovered. I found out yesterday that my Magicjack Plus interferes with my Nero copy program, so the Magicjack has to be unplugged for the copy program to work. I want to have my phone on in case any important calls come in so I'll have to wait until tonight to make my backup DVD's. The possibility of an important call coming in then is next to nil.

No work on the layout yet today, in fact I haven't run a train in the last two days. I think I'm having withdrawal symptoms! I'll have to run one for a bit today to get my fix.

Yep! That's exactly what I was thinking, among other things.

Had a four gig flash drive lock up on me after I copied it's data to another flash drive. It's no big loss. It's one of the cheaper flash drives made by Sandisk. I bought it at Wal-Mart over a year ago on sale. Upon examination I found the cause of the problem was a corrupted program. I did a forced format on it and cleared the corrupted sectors then tested it. Seems to work OK. I'm copying the FLV directory to it, so far no error messages. As solid state drives go it has really slow read/write speed. Always has from day one. It takes over two hours to write four gigs of data to it. That's why they were priced so low for sale. I bought two, a four gig and a two gig. I'll be replacing them when I can with much faster four gig flash drives from PNY. They run circles around these old ones on USB 1.1 and absolutely leave them in the dust on USB 2.0. If this one records all these FLV files I'm throwing at it I'll leave the files on it as a backup and store it with my backup DVD's. This doesn't change my plans to put the FLV files on a DVD tonight. The Car Talk MP3 files will be going onto a DVD also. Don't wanna lose them.

Well, the gutters are back up (we took them down to repaint the porch) and the weather couldn't decide whether to be clear or rainy.

Ohayō,

Thanks guys, the wife had a nice birthday on Sunday.  Our Labor Day holiday was nice.  I woke up early and went for a seven-mile run.  It wasn’t too hot yet, but it was pretty humid since it had been raining all night.  We went bowling as a family and everybody had a good time.  Afterwards, the older son and I went for haircuts and then we relaxed the rest of the day.  I made lime-seared fish, roasted potatoes, and roasted green beans for dinner.  I was in bed pretty early again last night but I did stay awake until 9:30 PM.  Today started off with a weight workout at the gym and now I am back to work.  I don’t have too much on my plate at work which is nice since the four-day weekend tends to spoil me.

LV 2089 – That sounds like a great day to me.  I’m originally from Schuylkill County and a LV fan as well.

SP Ray – I hope the fires don’t cause you any problems.

Sayonara,

Joe

Time for me to call it a night. I'm currently involved in the process of burning the DVD for the NPR Car Talk files backup. There are enough Car Talk programs on the disk that I can listen to one a week for two years and not hear the same one twice. The FLV backup DVD is already done. Ran a train today. The three GP9F's were run for a while then I parked them and ran the GP7's and GP35. Had the clickity-clack of metal wheels on rails going for over an hour. See y'all tomorrow.

Howdy guys - well today I didn't do much other than pick up the family at the train, spend a couple hours with Mom and Dad, eat pizza, and goof off.  Knees are better, thanks!  I was hoping Mom would have some of those old kiddie shovels in the garage, like you use with a pain and shovel in a sand pile as a kid.  They are all long gone apparently.  Nice chat with RT, Joe, Charlie, and SJ tonight - we have banilla, so we better kick the tires on this Tardis thingie!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good night.  Went out to Applebees to eat.

Went to hhgregg for a flat screen TV.  Found a great 51" HD on sale to replace the livingroom TV.  Moving the 42" flat screen to the livingroom at lake house.  Moving that 30 some inch to the master bedroom.  Moving the one in the bedroom [HD but NOT flat screen and heavy] back home for bedroom that layout is being destroyed.  Got a 24 inch HD flat screen Thursday before I left for the layout area of the Box.  Got wall mount and shelf for HD cable box.

While we were at hhgregg's, the "flood" hit Raleigh.  Rained for 40 minutes as hard as it could rain.  Unbelievable.  Got back to Rville and had rained hard but not that long.

Sat down to rest.  Woke up a few mintues ago.  Off to bed.

Interesting weekend deals with the "lease and pond".  Might be thought as bad but really good.  Will explain later.

Don Baker's hinges work great as long as you do NOT have a road bed.  If you do, you have to raise the hinges above the road bed or the bridge will bind.

Low 90's and humid here today.

KRM - I live in the home of the Missouri State Fair - Sedalia.

Started stripping alco shells for my four motor Alco A-B-A project.  The paint on the #205 MoPac. shell came off easily using Simple Green.  However the B&O blue paint on the #225 shell is more resistant to Simple Green.  So far it has just been softened and needs heavier scraping than I want to do.  It is still soaking.  The MPC era Amtrack B-unit shell seems to have super paint.  After a two hour soak in Simple Green, I just ended up with a really clean painted shell!  Got to step up the level of the chemicals - got a can of oven cleaner today.  I'll let you know how that works.

Spent time in my shop today making more frames for the modular layout for the museum.  1/2 way done with the corner modules now.

This week is going to be busy.  Lots of stuff, including some unexpected stuff we've got to work in somehow.

All for now.

Mornin' boys.  A sticky 77 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Back to the grind this afternoon.  Went to the pool, so littlest princess was happy.  Ended the day strummin' a few songs along with fifepup.

LV2089 - I too have a pretty good sized n-scale collection (collecting dust).  BTW, whose NS/LV Heritage engine will be buying, Lionel's or MTH's?

Morning everyone.

Gloomy again this morning.

Fifedog. I don't know whose heritage unit I would get, but I would probably get Lionel's. Since I'm 17, I really can't just say I want this engine and have it be a sure fact that I will get it. My budget is quite limited right now.

LV2089 - Oh, you're a young pup.  Yeah, I expect those engines to be pricey.  If you want to build on your LV collection, start attending the smaller train shows in your region, and make sure you check under the tables as well.  And let your folks know that you are interested, which will help out at Christmas and birthdays.  They'd much rather help your collection along, than to sink another $40-79 dollars on another video game.

Good morning. It's partly cloudy and 76° with 97% humidity. The high today will be 95° with a heat index of 106°.

Nothing much going on today. I got some cleanup done on the layout yesterday. May continue that today. No new projects planned. Got the Car Talk MP3's backed up last night then downloaded and listened to the newest show before closing down last night.

Konbanwa,

The workday progressed nicely today.  I was able to enjoy a brief Tardis ride with RT, Brutus, and SJ during my lunch break.  It ended prematurely due to Yahoo booting me off, but I had to return to work anyway.  The wife made orange chicken, couscous, and asparagus for dinner tonight.  I just finished some schoolwork and I am about to get some sleep.

RT - Thanks again for doing what you do.

JeffreyCar Talk is a great show.  I’m going to miss it as they are no longer making new shows.

HI GUYZ,

72 here and muggy.  Took my gal for a run in the woods.  Felt good!!!  Now trying to decide to put down rool roofing or not.  Is it gonna rain or not?  That is the question here.

SPMAN, RAY, watch don't get a hot foot out there.  Hopefully they'll get that fire contained.  Saw last nite on the news of pics of  a fire twister.  Looked neat but hope you don't see that.

LV 2089, I'm a READING FAN here.  I'm going for the Lionel BEE LINE SD70 when they come out.  Do like FIFE advised, tell your folks what you like and maybe for Bday and CHRISTMAS it might arrive.

Then watched the newest Doctor Who episode.  Looks like another nice sunny and hot day today, probably not quiet as our classes begin this week. No rain on the horizon. I like the polls that they can ask now (in another thread).  Aren't some of these photos wonderful?  And here's a favorite engine. watch?v=js5A6FMioY&feature=share

Joe back at you. You do just as much .

Morning all day to relax plans for today Turkey dinner around 3 or 4 with mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, green beans, cornbread, and what ever veg wife wants.

May try to finish up the wall so I can start the floor finally. The end is being a pain. as I'm starting to have to use some boards that aren't as straight as the first ones but not bad but boy they are determined to bend back to their bend and there only 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" in size 8' long.

have 2 of those and a cross section about 30" long x 2 I have to do at the step. I have about about a foot and 4 " to go on the the end of the wall.

Well not much else going on was reading the latest CTT and saw an article about BNSF having a layout build by a firm from Dallas, TX was wondering if that was the firm Roy works for ?

Talk to you all later.

Sunny and HOT already and humid ay least for now. They claim it is going to cool down after tomorrow.

Well I just got back from my monthly trip to Farm & Fleet for softener salt and bird seed so my Labor Today is over  now. Stick out tongue

RT I have a bid in on one of those rheostat links you sent me from the Bay. Thanks. Yeah service workers have to keep on keeping on regardless of the day. You and Joe know that all to well and guys like John too.

8N, You can try Brake fluid to take off that paint. You can soak the shells and it will take the paint but not hurt the shells, SO I have been told. Have you got the duel motor B unit all worked out?

DougM, Great video. Nice work by those guys.

Later.
