I know this is an old post, but I needed the same thing and I went right to the horses' mouth, Lionel. They have a copy to download.

Is anyone able to supply a copy of the 456 operating instructions? I have the Greenberg book with the parts diagram, but I am looking for the operating instructions too. Thanks.
Mike, I have to rewire mine as the wires are cracked. Was stored for better part of 20years. I will have to get some wire from Charlie's.

dennis,
I'm actually thinking about just "thinking" of it that way and save myself so hassel. Are you saying yours is wired the same way? Or do you have to rewire it because the controller it is cracked?
Mike
Mike, the other thing you could do is just reverse your thinking... Dump being when the car is filled, as in the coal loader is "Dumping" and then the load to the coal bin being "loaded". As it is, I know mine will need to be rewired as it has cracks in the 4 lead. Let me know how you make out.
Dennis,
It is the "dump" and "load" operation that I think is reversed. When I move the lever to the "dump" position the shute underneath the station opens to let the coal out that has been brought to the top by the bin. When I move the lever to the "load" position the coal car bin pops up. So I think when the accessory was re-wired, the wires controlling these two functions were switched. All I am trying to avoid is having to undo and redo the wires at the top by making sure it is set up correctly. But honestly, it doesn't look like there is anyway to set it up wrong.
One of the guys on another form is supposed to send me copies of his instructions. If I get them before you get your I'll post. Thanks for the response.
Guys,
I'm sorry if my post was confusing. I have Greenberg and it does show the parts parts list and repair/maintenance tips for these two. What I'm looking for is more towards the set up and operation. I know they are pretty simple and straight forward but as you can see from my earlier post about the issues I'm having with my 456 Ramp I wanted to see if I was missing some small point in the set up and operation that could be the root of the problem.
As for the 497 Station, the controller is acting in reverse for the "dump" and "load" action and before I take it apart and look to re-connect the wires I wanted to see if it was set up properly.
Thanks for your replies.
RT,
Thanks
