The Lionel SD40 is totally new has has road name unique detailing.

We just received a Burlington Northern SD40 from Lionel, and this Built-to-Order diesel looks terrific!

The Burlington Northern's simple green, white, and black paint scheme looks great on this six-axle monster.

The SD40-series of locomotives is a stand-out star of second generation diesel power. More than 1,200 of the 3,000 HP locomotives were built for 30 North American and foreign railroads between 1966 and 1972. While there are SD40s and variants still in service, several have already been selected for preservation.

Details such as the model number and builder's plate are neatly applied.

The Lionel SD40 offers road name specific detailing for short hood, grab irons, battery boxes, dynamic brakes, radiator, pilot, fuel tank, fans. Trucks, horn, hand brakes, bell, and more.

The no. 82276 Burlington Northern came superbly protected for shipment. Note the blocks that held the model in place, preventing damage to detailing.

The model is powered by two can-style motors and features the Lionel Legacy command and sound system.

Road names include Burlington Northern, Chessie System (B&O), Clinchfield, Conrail, Conrail (Savings Bonds), Grand Trunk Western, Missouri Pacific, Southern Pacific, and Southern Pacific (Daylight) and seven are available with different cab numbers.

The twin speakers let you hear – and feel the rumble of the Legacy RailSounds system!

Look for video of this in action on Bob's Train Box 62 (Post York Edition) or check it out at your local Lionel retailer.
