I love interrurbans, too bad i never grew up in the 40's, we used to have one that wen't to Selkirk, Man to Winnipeg, but i heard the Grand River Railway and Lake Erie & Northern were special.
These were the good ol' days, now all we have is polluting automobiles! My granparents told me many stories of how good the electric streetcars were, we should've followed Toronto, but i guess we chose to not give our people any alternative and have auto only transportation, hopefully we will get a mayor who cares about it's people and make an electric LRT system, which we need in the 21st century to move ahead, not bus rapid transit!
Here's another one for all to enjoy.
One Fergie might enjoy so I'll post it at the bar on saturday. a Birney that is ex TTC shown in Halifax streetcar colours , I think it's on the spurthat would have run by Halifax's main train station.

A 1958 shot from the archeives interurban 620 of the NS&T upbound on Geneva Street in St Catharines about to turn onto St Paul street where it will pass in front of the Hobby Shop still in business today !
Nice shot Tom , if you didn't know better it looks like it's about to board and leave the station

Good evening again guys , bit boared tonight so I was playing with the scanner and some old photo's found a couple good ones so here's one for everyone's purusal.
An NS&T interurban car preparing to cross the Welland canal bridge #1 at Port Weller.This line was run by the NS&T line as a mostly freight branch as they moved slab steel and large bulky items to the Port Weller dry docks which are just on the other side of the bridge, the passenger casr carried the workers to and from the plant. From the OERHA collection not sure of the picture taker however.
Afternoon Lars , loved the book cover both here and at the bar That mutant started out life as a Baldwin AS16 . It was rebuilt using EMD guts I think from a GP18 and the car body and dynamic breaks etc were grafted onto the baldwin frame. I don't think the C&NW did the rebuild , if I remember correctly it ws the Katy that did the re-building and the C&NW following their usual practices bought them second hand and wrung a few more years out of them.

Here's another wierdy from my Chicago trip in 95.
We'll, i just did'nt come on often before, but now i will. And yes i have some more pics from Manitoba for ya. The last two photos are right beside McPhillips Street Stattion Casino, the CPR shops are right behind it, and a spur track crossing right beside the casino, a unique crossing too.

I can't believe that reflection shot of yours - really "cool" 'n one of those that just "happens" huh I mean no one could plan on a shot like that from a moving train. Makes the poster pix look like a work from an amateur . . . <grin>
