Constant topic on many model/toy train forums. A lot of local hobby shops have gone out of business since the net became a full fledged entity for competition. Looking at issues of Classic Toy Trains, Model Railroader, etc. from 25 years ago shows advertisers with multi-page ads and not a web address in sight. Today those same advertisers have maybe a half page ad each and to compound the problem, prices often can't be quoted in print. You have to go to their websites to see what the prices are. I haven't been a CT subscriber nearly as long as I've subscribed to CTT but I can tell you the quality and amount of content didn't go down when the advertising dissappeared.
Trains, trains, wonderful trains. The more you get, the more you toot!
And as a business owner myself, I can say you can discount yourself out of business just as easily.
Oh oh, a boo boo Boo Boo. By sorry track record at Kalmbach I mean the less than 100 pages per issue. I'll gladly pay an increase in the retail price of magazines (Trains, Classic Trains) for 100 action packed page magazines.
One dealer in Minn. stopped advertising in Kalmbach magazines as a result of increased advertising rates. I'm sure more dealers followed suit. Perhaps Kalmbach management needs to streamline operations and lower ad rates which would help increase the number of pages per magazine. A company can price itself out of business as a result of poor business operating decisions which may also include unrealistic rates for advertising.
Get a digital subscription then! Do not blame Kalmbach for postal delays.
After much delay, a pretty letter carrier finally delivered my copy of Winter CT three weeks ago to my address in Germany. However, given Kalmbach's sorry track record I may decline to renew my subscription when it comes due next summer.
I have not received mine yet.
Pretty sure it came in the Friday BEFORE the last one..so 8-10 days ago.
