BaltACDSuspect Amtrak is right there with the Airlines - laid off the bulk of the work force during the darkest days of Covid - then expected near 100% return of employees when recalls went out - now they are stupified that less than 20% are actually returning to service, coupled with the normal course of retirements that continued to happen to employees that had too much service time to be subject to being laid off. Best & Brightest find out that in reality they are Dumb & Dumber.
Also the advantage of pay vs. quality of life isn't there as in years past. True of all railroads.

Good news only 1 C-19 reported on Amtrak last week. Now the returnees can start giving OJT to new hires.
Gentlemen I messed up. I did not check both Laborer/skilled trades and Engineering/mechanical. Those 2 categories have almost 370 openings with only about 100 beiing unskilled. Openings date back to Jan 28th.
So these openings seem to point of more Amtrak foot dragging on hiring. No wonder there is a big shortage of equipment. IMO management has no excuses.

Oh yeah. A writer for "Trains" said it best concerning Penn Central:
"A marriage made in Hell and the bride wore black!"

O&W steam era. What was added or changed in the brief diesel era?
In the diesel era the O&W painted their passenger cars in a grey and yellow scheme to match the new diesel units. A pretty good-looking color scheme, but not what I was after.

It is now time for me to ease up. Amtrak's inability to meet any promised train operations has been proved. Their lare hiring has resulted causing Amtrak's inability to operate all of their scheduled trains when promised. We shall see if Amtrak can meet the promise of all trains by end of May?
Now only postings that directly affect operating by end of May will be noted.

blue streak 1blue streak 1 wrote the following post 15 hours ago: It now appears that we can see the consequences of this late hiring. March 28 start of all cancelled trips? Not going to happen according to Amtrak. Now end of may? That IMO becomes more unlikely. These openings are needed for some extra boards at least. What someone pointed out to me is the lack of positions in the maintenance trades. Seems that not enough persons to maintain all the equipment. What is going to happen to all that nice shinny locos and passenger cars if maintenance scrimped? By november wonder how many will be on the RIP lines? That is not counting all the older equipment.
I agree with you, that this looks like poor (and maybe intentional) planing. They have been in a shutdown mode for so long and perhaps afraid to think about how AMTRAK was going to operate in the future that they (Whoever is in charge) couldn't see that they were loosing so many needed people to perform all the work it takes to operate a regular daily train service. Now they are playing catch up in a all new hiring world.
I watch too much TV and the Chicago stations are showing an Amtrak commercial that is short (20 sec) and I have not yet seen it because I only hear the end where a voice says "Its only an AMTRAK away" and I can not look fast enough to see any of it. It is between other commercials and I am not watching the screen. How Amtrak waste's money.

Yikes!
Some people need to relax a bit. For example, I wanted to repaint some O Gauge passenger cars into NYO&W livery but for color could only find a vague description of "light olive" and no steam era color photographs to reference. What to do?
So I went to HobbyTown's Tamiya paint section, saw "Olive Drab 2," and said "Close enough!" Looks good too!
charlie hebdo exact mixtures for scale appearance of Brunswick green!!
Oh, that's easy. "Two parts black, one part green." Any Pennsy fan will tell you!
zugmann So, you have no point. What I thought.
So, you have no point.
What I thought.
No point. The questionable personnel planning by Amtrak is a good topic but weekly posting of Amtrak advertising is a separate matter. Streak may have good intentions but seems unwilling to answer Zug's question.
So what purpose is served with these postings?

I'm not sure I see the problem here.
I have found some of the listings interesting, and I normally don't take the time to check other sites for info like this.

Here are my points with this subject thread.
First I am using advertizing which is what is posted here and Hiring as one item. Amtrak had to limit trains last summer due to the Delta variant. Amtrak lost many personnel then. Omicrom came out last fall. It was evident that Amtrak would get low on both operating personnel and non operating ones due to the new variant with many persons giving up and quiting due to the great resignation. Especially management positions.
But did Amtrak start hiring? NO! Maybe they could at the new fiscal year of October 1. NO! Then when the new budget proposal was obvious to come out of congress or even signed by the president did they start hiring? Again no!
When management knew they would have to reduce again reduce operating trains to 5 days a week? NO! They did not start advertizing until Jan 25th! That reveals a lack of planning competence for all the vacancies that were apparent way before and after the New year's day.
For all these vaccancies being posted now indicates IMO a willfull lack of hiring instead of erlier in this year or last year.
The lateness of these advertized opening IMO will mean a graduated restartig of trains both NEC and LD hopefully not to the end of May instead of all by MAR 28th.
Maybe we all need to contact the Pols about these delays?
I never realized Reading liveries we're that complex. But then foamers can go on at length about various C&NW colors just like modelers about the exact mixtures for scale appearance of Brunswick green!!
I think it's just a continuation of interest from the original posts in this thread: Amtrak has increased hiring as we come out of the pandemic and start figuring out where the Government money will be allocated.
It may just be that blue steak has a particular interest in this topic and can easily cut and paste the listings from the Amtrak site to show what Amtrak actually has week by week. This is similar to a post on RyPN that started as a discussion of correct paint colors on the Reading and has metastasized to over 73 pages (last I read it) MOSTLY contributed by one individual who has timeless attention to the finer issues. If that is an interest, you can find no better introduction. If it is not an interest... best scroll down.
I wonder as well. Perhaps he is getting a small honorarium for posting help wanted ads on here? It's a violation of the forum TOS.
I fail to see the point in these postings. You can set up a job agent on their website or just go there.
Or is there a point I'm missing?
