54. Portugal - Accident with an Intercity & Regional train
Posted by Mario_v on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 9:07 AM

On January 21 an Intercity train doing the Lisbon - Oporto service (I believe it was train 538) rear endend a regional train that was stopped at Alfarelos station, 198 kilometres away from Lisbon. 21 people got hurt. The engines involved are Eurosprinter loco 5613 and EMU 2294.

Don't ask me why but this one seems to be one of those impossible things to happen, since the line is equipped with an ATP system. Despite the spectacularity of everything, the bump sems to have happened at low to medium speed (about 30 mph, the top speed in this station is 75). Here are some videos (I know it's not english, but the immages speak by itself)
