Trains News Wire reports that Metra has received a $500 million-ish rescue grant. Good news, I suppose, but is it only a band-aid that will allow Metra to keep running empty trains for a few more months? Ridership right now is only a bit better than one-fifth what it was during its peak in 2008 (it had already been declining for years before Covid hit). Two years in, this "temporary" work-from-home deal seems to be becoming permanent.
