Marines have a sense of humor and can laugh at themselves. So do the SEALS.
Ever hear what the SEALS say about themselves?
"It's not so much that we're good, we're not that good, everyone else sucks!"
Know how many Marines it takes to change a light bulb? Five.
One to change the bulb, four to stand around muttering that the bulbs were tougher in the "Old Corps!"
Anyone in the mood for some service jokes?

charlie hebdo Flintlock76 Yes, we all know what happened on this date. But did you know something else happened, something so horrendous it's been pushed to the back of the collective conciousness of New York City residents and totally forgotten? Here's the whole sad story of a transit tragedy: http://www.sioctopusdisaster.com/memorial.html And what is YOUR purpose in posting such nonsense?

To have some fun. Some people get it, some don't. If you don't get it, move on.
Here's the thing, if I'm channel surfing and I run into something I don't like, music, a show, or a comedian who's brand of humor I don't like or consider offensive I don't go whining to the cable company, I just change the channel. End of story.
Convicted OneI have no problem with you original "spoof" post, but how can you say with certainty what was on the mind of someone who you are not in direct contact with?
The artist explains his choice of the date and why in this article.

It's for the same reason he chose the date of October 24th 1929 for his "Elephant Stampede Memorial," the big news story of that date was the Stock Market Crash. The news of "Black Thursday" supposedly eclipsed the news of the "stampede."
He explains himself very well. He needs no help from me.
Oh boy, here we go.
Flintlock76We also recognize the artist's aim in covering the "event" with a larger event, and realize he means absolutely no disrespect.
I have no problem with your original "spoof" post, but how can you say with certainty what was on the mind of someone who you are not in direct contact with? I say this because you seem to have a habit of making broad generalizations about 3rd parties ("we all owe a debt of thanks to mrXX for blah blah..." being another example).
Such generalizations seem misguided, as though you feel entitled to think on other people's behalf. I'm not trying to pick a fight with you, but it is a tendency of yours I have come to notice.
54light15 In one of the Sharknado movies, the sharks invade New York and they do battle with the alligators that everyone knows live in the sewers. A "sharknado" is just what it sounds like.

Dammit, I missed that one! I missed the "Moby Dick" re-boot too where the "whale" eats a submarine and a cruise liner! I miss all the good stuff!
CSSHEGEWISCH To those of us who remember what we were doing on November 22, 1963, the OP should be ashamed of himself.

With all due respect, I remember exactly where I was and exactly what I was doing on 11/22/1963, and so does the wife. Both of us remember it like it was yesterday. We also recognize the artist's aim in covering the "event" with a larger event, and realize he means absolutely no disrespect.
Life moves on, know what I mean? It started moving on 11/23/1963. And for those with no first-hand memories of that date, it may as well have been 100 years ago.
After all, who remembers the Lusitania every May 7th? In the general scheme of things, very few indeed.

Maybe his next monument will be to memorialize the subway workers killed by the giant alligators in the NYC sewer system.

As an old Jersey guy I tend to agree!
As gullible as people are today, I bet there are hundreds who see this monument in its travels, think "how sad", and believe its true. Myths promoted around the current election only prove the point.
54light15Do you think that there's lots of octopususes under that water?
That is not dead which can eternal lie ... and whenever Cthulhu wakes he'll want good pastrami...
What were the other fake monuments this guy did? The elephants? The alien abduction? Only a pandemic could slow that guy down...
Never heard of this one! Do you think that there's lots of octopususes under that water? Are we in any danger? How can we protect ourselves? Tragedy awaits the unwary!
