CTA's Yellow Line

ALL:

I watched a clip on "You Tube" of a Skokie Swift train leaving Skokie and was under the impression that the third rail extended the entire length of that line. How far east does the overhead cantinery extend before the third rail begins? Are the series of cars used on the Skokie Swift restricted to the Yellow Line due to the pans on top of the cars?

Ed, the clip was recorded before the third rail was extended and the overhead wire removed.

When the Skokie Swift was established in 1964, the catenary ran from Dempster Street to East Prairie Road with third rail east of that point.  The catenary was replaced by third rail within the last ten years or so.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul
