I am usually a booster of NJT and i's public relations efforts. However, this morning the NJ.Com is reporting a two car derailment "near" Penn Station about 8AM this (Tue 8-9-11) morning with no injuries but causing massive delays for NJT and Amtrak. NJT's web page acknowledges the delays of well over an hour and MidTown direct service being directed to Hoboken but say only that the reason is a "disabled train". I wonder why NJT is not as upfront and direct about the situation?
RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. No fees, just let us know you want to join the ride and pay your fares. Ask to be on our email list or find us on FB as RIDEWITHMEHENRY (all caps) to get descriptions of each outing.
NJ Transit is also considering the fact that most people equate "derailment" with "train wreck" and all of the rumors that would come from that.
I thought that, too, but the newsmedia was already reporting a two car derailment.
