The CTA North/Clybourn Station Presented By Apple??
Posted by BrianLM007 on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 8:50 PM

Howdy guys,

I saw this piece on the Chicago Tribune website, it appears that Apple is offering funds to the CTA to allow it to refurbish the North/Clybourn station on the Red Line.  In exchange, they get to have first dibs on advertising and potential naming rights.  I put a link to the article below:

Personally, I'm not sure what to think of this...while that station is in serious need of an overhaul, do I really want to see the iNorth Station Presented By Apple?  The Apple cult is big enough already...Whistling

I don't like the idea of station names being another vehicle for corporate adverstisements. I can't help but think that it signifies the government's inabilty to adequately maintain their transit services.Just imagine this spreading into other modes of transport....JFK could be "Big Mac", Newark could be the 'quarter pounder', and LaGuarda could be the 'whopper junior"!

Given the CTA's terrible finances, any help should be welcomed.

There's been some backpedaling from this - naming rights not included...still in negotiations.
