Alco RSD7 vs RSD15
Posted by BEAUSABRE on Monday, September 6, 2021 7:21 PM

I know that the RSD7 was powered by the 244 engine (boo, hiss!) and the RSD15 by the 251 (hooray!), but was there any way to determine from external features which was which? Reason is that I have a chance to buy two HO RSD15's and, since the PRR had small numbers of both (5 and 6, respectively), I'm thinking about numbering one as a RSD7 and one as a RSD15.

The only known difference is if it has a factory low nose then it has to be a RSD15.

So go ahead and do it.

Yes, if it has a low nose, it's a RSD15. BUT a high nose can be either a RSD7 or 15 and there's apparently no way to know which without looking at the builder's plate, OK, here we go! Thanks!
