Any ALCO is good,EMD SD-40-2,SD-9,and the GP 40

Not fond of GE's except I did love our 4200 series B23-7. Its too bad that GE cant build a product that lasts over half a century on a Major class one.(talking about the SD-9's we still have at BNSF)

Yes we are on time but this is yesterdays train

I am a big fan of the SW1200 and SW1500.

I love hearing those old switchers rev up and push a load.

I see a lot of IHB yard action out here.

My favorite is the SD80MAC. It's awesome to watch those things rumble by. Too bad they rarely show up in MA anymore since the Conrail split-up.

I'm also fond of the SD26 and SD45 for sentimental reasons, though I know the crews don't like them.

Least favorite? Dash 9s. Booooorring.

My favorite locomotive is Union Pacifics 6900 centennial. What power and beauty. I wonder if they still run the 6936.

Yes, they still run the 6936, it is part of the Heritage Fleet. It is commonly used on Business trains.

the Baldwin Sharknoses were the coolest, along with the ALCO PA's. The FM Erie builts were neat as well

Least favorite would be the Dash-9's & the SD90macs, those flared raidators are ugly!

My favorite?

Check out page 24 of the autumn issue of "Classic Trains."  Yep, there it is baby, the Illinois Central's infamous "Green Diamond,"  known to the locals along it's run from Chicago to St. Louis as "The Tomato Worm"

So damn ugly it's classic!  Wow!

Here, I'll help you out a bit...

Prepare to be stunned.

Least favorite?  Whichever one did the best job of killing steam.

Least Favorite - built by GE for SCL to house a 5 man train crew - without caboose.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

Conrail SD80MAC.  The first, successful, 5000 HP, all purpose AC locomotive with cutting edge technology.  The 30 of them are still in mainline service on NS over 20 years after they were built.

Nobody else wanted to take a chance on the 20-710 engine. It's still around.  The other >5000 HP engines are long gone.
