My favorite is Conrail {Consolidated Railroads} the reason been. I grew up in N.J. and you had a chance to see over six flags under one railroad. You can't beat that experience.

Absolutely!!! Despite my user name it's the Cheap & Nothing Wasted for me - after which I love the C&O & KCS in the States!

Then it's British Railways Corporate Image & Western Region, followed by DB, DR, DSB, SNCB and OSE.

OSE???? - in other words Greek railways - and STILL running ALCO'S - get out there while you can!

GREEN BAY AND WESTERN ALL THE WAY!

I have to say Union Pacific too. (don't hate me....lol)

I love the smell of ALCo smoke in the Morning. "Long live the 251!!!" I miss the GBW and my favorite uncle is Uncle Pete. Uncle Pete eats Space Noodles for breakfast.

Mine was in my own back yard, the Midland Railway in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It interconnected with the Great Northern RR and also the CPR.

The late great NSW GOVERNMENT railways (Australia)  .......Alco heaven, everything from FA lookalikes, RSC types (with 244's),Alco World series hood units and 6 Alco/GE cab units (C-C trucks) styled after the GE UP/Erie Demo set. Fortunately one of these is preserved in working order and many of the other units are still in regular service with private operators.

My favorite RR's are relatively recent fallen flags that I got to watch run well past my college years.  Southern Pacific and Rio Grande are my most favorites.  I grew up west and miss the Santa Fe and BN as well but they weren't in my back yard.

Hey, for me my favorite is a mighty fine line THE ROCK ISLAND LINE! As I grew up in the Quad cities, As a kid in the 60s I remember there were still some colorful painted engines still running around. And R.I. had some oddball engines in and out of the silvis yards. AHH the good ol days!  ( 1 R. I. NUT )
