Lahaina, Kanaapali & Pacific equipment status in wildfire

Does anyone know if the LK&P equipment was still in Lahaina and what the status is considering news accounts of downtown Lahaina devastated by the wildfires on Maui?

Word so far on RyPN is:

Poster on Trainorders found a picture in a post-fire gallery showing the Lahaina depot burned to the ground, along with the turntable. The steam locomotive displayed next to the depot also got burned over.

The latest burned area detection maps on the FIRMS website shows the southern half of the railroad line to be burned over. As per that the fire had not (yet) reached the northern end, where the railroad's equipment is stored.

The railroad; lock, stock, and barrel (but not the land it sat on) had been put up for sale.  As a result, any buyer was to dismantle and remove all railroad equipment and infrastructure.

I take it that there were no takers.  The price was relatively cheap.  The expense of removing the railroad would dwarf the actual sale price.  Which would probably deter most buyers.

FWIW, part of the blame for the intensity of the fires is hurricane Dora passing to the south of Hawai'i. According to the forecasts, it looks like Dora will have gone more than a quarter of the way around the globe by the time it peters out.

With 36 deaths so far, the fate of the equipment is relatively minor.

Sadly, the toll is almost 100 dead with a thousand or so still unaccounted for.  Train rides on Maui seem to be history, baring a miracle.

Saw some areial photography of the SW Corner of the Island of Maui (Lahaina, city(?) ..   Unfortunately, that whole area seemed to resemble the similar aftermath of the WWII Dresden,Germany;  after the Allied air raids there.

The area has been in a  media and information " lock down" , and entrance is controled by 72 hour entrance pass system,  for only authorized entry.  Latest estimates of deatyh toll, seemnmtorange between then current 97 confirmed deceased, and a pitential numbering between 500 and 1,000 (?)....

It woud seem to be awhile, before the condition of the L K & P RR, and its equipment will be assessed  (?).

There's a news photo on Yahoo today showing the Sugarcane locomotive. It looks to be in reasonable shape but everything around it is burned to the ground.

Just to noter: The Sugar Train histry dates to 1969 and operations inded in August of 2014. Ihadnread that a local businessman had purchased the equipment and properry, toattempt resumingnthe attraction.

Sugar Cane trains/.G.railroads still function to 'feed' sugar mills in Australia, and one can Google Search to find a number of videos that feature,    not only the L,K,&P RR  at Maui, but also operations in Queensland, Austraiia.

Linked Here: Are a couple of 'current' articles referencing the deaths/conditions on Maui, 8/17and 18th @
