New chance to get cab ride in the Big Boy
Posted by York1 on Thursday, June 22, 2023 7:56 PM

After the first auction was spoiled by a certain group, UP now is offering two tickets, each $9500.  Once again, the money goes to the UP's museum in Council Bluffs.

I just got this email:

As part of the Home Run Express Steam Tour, Union Pacific offered a rare opportunity for rail fans to bid on a ride in the cab of the historic Big Boy 4014, the world's largest steam locomotive. All funds raised were to support Union Pacific Railroad Museum, a non-profit organization dedicated to sharing American history through the lens of the railroad and connecting generations who have been impacted by Union Pacific.

Unfortunately, the contest was manipulated by an individual and did not result in an award to the highest bidder. Our goal is supporting the Union Pacific Museum, and we are now selling two tickets for $9500 each with all proceeds benefitting the museum. Tickets go on sale at 5 p.m. central time, June 23 at www.uptraintix.com. We are excited to welcome these true rail fans onto the Big Boy for the experience of a lifetime.

It's really sad that someone attempted to manipulate an auction which will now have an impact that the fundraising for the UP Museum might be less than it otherwise might have been.     You have to be pretty low to sabotage a company's charity fundraising efforts for your own benefit.

There is an element in the country that want to destroy anything and everything in the USA.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

To call them a group implies some basic organization and a heirarchy, and that's giving those who spoiled the auction way too much credit.  They're nothing more than random foamer internet trolls who don't know when a joke stops being funny.

I believe there was also a $69,000 bid for a time before it was retracted.  Someone else commented that it should have been $69,420.  Shows the level of intelligence you're dealing with here.

I kind of feel for the highest legitimate bidder on the original auction.  Should at least get first crack at buying one of these seats unless other arrangements are made.

Not their fault some edgelord foamers that think they're funny messed it all up.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

There's a lot of great things about the Internet.  Unfortunately considering the anonymity it provides the Internet is also a coward's dream come true.

They guy who made the $21,000 'joke' bid did so under what appears to be his real name.
