What I find most important is that almost all equipment is stored under cover.

My worry is that a storm surge off the Long Island Sound would swamp all of this historical equipment.

A storm surge did happen years ago, I don't recall when but it did flood the museum.

The two grey buildings in the upper right of the first photo have enough track capacity to house under cover about half the collection, all the most valuable and sensitive equipment, and they are on a hill about ten feet above the level water reached during Sandy.  They are of brick and steel construction, not wood.  (I have a brick with my name and city in one of the two buildings, as a contributor.)  Their construction was the response of the membership to Sandy.  There is more than enough track space, similarly high, elsewhere to park the remaining equipment in case of a flood warning.

USGS Installs National Water Dashboard Monitor at the Museum

 

The U.S. Geological Survey Department installed a real- time water level monitor on SLTM's East Haven trestle to monitor the flow of water on the Farm River with official site #411620672514501. Additional monitors have been installed at The Farm River Marina (East Haven) and near Pages Mill Pond (North Branford).   Aside from measuring sea level rise, this real time monitor will be an invaluable tool to the museum during storms, and to monitor increasing astronomical high tide levels. Data is available to the general public and is on our website at  shorelinetrolley.org - just click the Farm River Estuary tab at the top of the screen.
