Heavy Haul Trucking Companies That Would Move A Gutted E8A? In Ohio please.

Long story short, it appears I have aqquired a locomotive. It is a E8A I don't want to disclose RR and reporting marks in fear of undermining the deal. It is stripped of alot of exterior pieces, the prime mover (and associated equipment), generators, and I believe the traction motors as well. I am not sure of weight now but I would guess around 150,000 lbs. I want to have it moved to my farm to restore exterior and cab, and finish engine room into either a model railroad room, or a display area for my railroad collectibles. I know it would be a cheap or easy endevour. I am trying to find companies to get qoutes on craning and trucking. It would be best to have NS move it closer to my home, but I don't know how to go about getting a federal inspection done so I know what needs repaired to do so. I am in Ohio so I would prefer local companines to keep costs down. Thanks,

Mike

You can avoid a federal inspection by having a trucking company move the locomotive . Finding a trucking company should be fairly simple just look for companies who move rail equipment and I know in Ohio there are several as we have had several rail cars moved to us by truck from Ohio to Mobile Al . You will want to find a crane contractor who has railroad experience .

You don't need to worry about the inspection. If NS is willing to move it as frt on own wheels they will ispect it and tell you what it will cost to get it legal.

Why would you have a railcar deilvered to Mobile by truck when NS makes the points direct and the repairs would be needed anyway, right?

If I were you, I'd join the Railway Preservation News group (RyPN) and post this on their "Interchange" discussion forum.  Then listen carefully to their advice and recommendations.

We were just as surprised to see it on a truck . Ns was the one that derailed the car and that was their choice in delivery . The strangest part was it had derailed almost a year prior to delivery in Mobile . The first hint was a guy called the office wanting directions to deliver some wheels . Then 30 minutes after the wheels arrived the coal hopper showed up on a low boy . We see a lot of wrecked cars in the shop but most show up on a flat car.
