Hello,
The move date for the Y6 has been confirmed by the Museum of Trasportation currator!
The 2156 will be removed from the museum this Saturday, May 9th. The move will include an N&W auxilary tender, several period cars, and the tool car which will accomany the Y6a for the trip to Roanoke. The train is being built in downdown St. Louis as I speak. The Y6 will be leaving sometime between 9 or 10 AM, and the move will bring it back through Kirkwood.
I will try as hard as I can to film and photograph the move from MOT, and possibly through Kirkwood. Will report back with the footage to post here.
2156 will be going home for the first time in over 50 years. And will stay in Virginia at VMOT on loan to Norfolk-Southern for the duration of it's 5 year loan.
I will be sad to see her leave, but we must all say good-bye at one point.
-S. Connor.
No, once the locomotive leaves the downtown St. Louis area, no one is sure of the exact route 2156 will be taking to Roanoke.
Only NS knows what the route will be, and I'm certain they won't be making a release of it.
I will be chasing 2156 to Kirkwood, MO tomorrow.
-S. Connor
ATTENTION!
The N&W Y6a has officially left St. Louis for the first time in more than 50 years.
Stay tunned as videos are created and posted.
I don't think Trains magazine was on site to document the move, can anyone confirm?
