C & O 4-8-4 614
Posted by JOSEPH the steam buff on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 6:46 PM

Does anybody know if there are still any plans to make Chesapeake and Ohio 4-8-4 614 operational again.    I know she is part of the Chesapeake and Ohio heritage site.     It would be nice to see her running again.

As far as I know, she's still sitting, tarped, outside the roundhouse in Port Clinton, PA. This is at the headquarters of the Reading and Northern.

Until there is:

-Someone who won't take no for an answer-

614 will not ride the rails again. If someone is there who will not give up, everything needed will eventally be found.

We need that brave person now more than ever, to get more steamers on the main and keep them there.

CORRECTION - we need a RICH person more than ever - amazing doors open with money!  The wealthy in America are rich like no other geneation - some with multiple commercial jets - multiple homes around the world - amazing portfolios of companies - Ted Truner for example has been buying property across America so he can walk coast to coast and never leave his own land!

We need a truely rich Railfan - as I said AMAZING THINGS WILL HAPPEN! - Ross Rowland was a Wall Street "Commodities Futures Broker" and was just such a man!  He was rich enough and knew how to work with corporate business leaders in railroading.

Nope, it is neither tarped nor in Port Clinton, PA. It is in downtown Clifton Forge, VA.

I have to admit, Ross Rowland and Co. have made the best of this situation. 614 is really looking good. She and her excursion train have constant attention. I feel 614 is a really, really nice static display.

As I recall she even went to Virginia to be displayed with 611, 1218, ect. a couple years back.

Appears to be missing the Main Rods.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

I'm sure they're around somewhere close.  They were most likely taken off for the move and just never re-installed.

Train chasing the 614 through the WV hills during the ACE 3000 trials with my dad and brother was what turned me into a railfan.  I have several VHS videos of the runs that I've put on DVD and used them to inspire at least an interest in trains with my son.  It would be great to see it running excursions again.  The 614 is a family tradition! Big Smile

When did she move to Clifton Forge? She looks great in the photo!

I really question Ross Rowland about leaving an engine like this out of doors for any extended period of time.  The moisture attack against it is not good!  Come on Ross you of all people should know better!

Just don't leave her land locked politically like NYC 3001 - no possessive ignorant Elkhart, Indiana mayors with a view of "steam train in kiddie land!"
