Railroads and Railfans

I read posts in here all the time about railfans wanting employment on the railroads. It has been a few years since in worked for a "carrier' but the people i worked with liked the railroad. They were not modelers or railfans like most of the people here. But they still took pride in telling people they worked for the Railroad! Most guys would not even say i work for CSX NS OR GTW they just said railroad. And back then most people would say "how did you get that job your lucky" People knew about the great wages and seemed to be impressed. And has been posted here most rail workers are tight although they b**ch about each other and gossip about everything from their wives to peoples toilet habits. It was just a different culture but the bottom line i think deep down most like their jobs. I see guys now from 15 years ago and its like i never left the Railroad you still gossip and talk about how much money everyone is making etc etc. The only time i heard trainmen kick about railfans is when we starting getting scanners and my conductor friends said those blank blanks have scanners now!!! LOLOL Have a great day all!
