Off topic you say?
Well, consider that just a few years ago all the talk of new power plants in Idaho was 100% of coal fired power. Then this global warming virus mutated into a political monster in states like California (where projected future new power demands are in the tens of thousands of megawatts), now nuclear is making a comeback while coal is being legislated out of favor by these GW nutjobs.
And the railroads stand to lose big time.
Oh well, at least this proposed plant would co-exist with a proposed ethanol plant, so perhaps the railroads will get a few scraps from the table. Too bad the proponents don't realize that a coal-to-liquids plant adjacent to the nuclear plant would make more sense (and cents!).
A nuclear plant that provides the process steam for a CTL plant would be a win-win for all involved - the GW nutjobs get their point source CO2 avoidance while generating relatively cheap electricity, the railroads would get their money maker in the form of unit coal trains, and the Average Joe US drivers would get cleaner cost competitive Made-In-The-USA fuel at the pump, cleaner by far than either ethanol or biodiesel.
