Wnet to Blue Island and saw
Posted by Glen Ellyn on Saturday, June 23, 2007 12:33 PM

nothing at the junction. It was raining so we didn't get out. Their were two trains just stopped their. One was on the IAIS CSX connector, and I couldn't tell what the other train was on. We gave it 20 minutes and they didn't move. So we went to the station after that for about an hour and saw the coolest thing ever!!! I will have pictures up soon. It was a Chicago RailLink local!!! The 2 engines cruised by Vermont street 4 times! It couldn't have been better. Well, if it wasn't raining, but I never intended on seeing that! If it wasn't for the train nots moving at the junction I would have never seen that! After spenind an hour at the station, we went back to the junction to see if things had cleared up, and the IAIS CSX connector train had moved. The CSX train had 3 SD40-2's and a SLUG, as we went to the station, we saw an IAIS train with 3 GP38-2's. On our way to the junction on 135'th street, we say some random IAIS GP38-2 just pakred there, and when we got to the station, we saw an old ATSF caboose and the Raillink local. It was a good day!

Like I said before, I will have pictures soon.

Is it typical to have multiple trains to stop on Broadway for more than an hour? Or was today something different. I thought I saw a car under one of the trains, but I also think it was behind a fence and if a train did hit a car, why would their still be trains running over the crossing.

20 minutes? thats it?.....lol   i was called out of bensenville on a x500 to grand rapids one time...we died right at blue island....sat there for 8 hours....sat 2 hours next to the nestle plant.....man did that suck.....smelling chocolate and not have any!!!

there was another time we left out of barr yard on Q326 and died at clark jct.....maybe 10 miles travelled. waited for the taxi 3 hours....when it showed up it had a recrew plus a deadhead crew to bensenville.....then we finally got on the hiway to GR we hit a snow storm around new buffalo....was on the clock 23 hours.....the company paid 14 of it....my union local chairman tried but couldnt get the rest........west end out of grand rapids is blood money!!!!

this was all during and right after the conrail split....trains were dieing in and around chicago and toledo like crazy....guess it was worse for NS

Well were you stalled over Broadway Rd. for 8 hours? Because these two trains were.

Here are the pictures!!!

Here are the random IAIS units

Here is the Broadway Massacure ;)

Here is the treat of the day that made this trip worth it!!!

I took over 20 pictures of this 2 engine one car train. The first two times it rolled over Vermont AVE it was just the two engines. I was holding the button down for a good 10 seconds per train movement! Does anyone know what company those are?

Ah, ok. Well the strange thing about today is that 2 trains were blocking Broadway.

J Edgar:

Why would you only get paid for 14 hours?  That doesnt seem right.

BTW, I met a crewman for CSX out of Grand Rapids by the name of Doc.  Do you know him?  Interesting fellow.
