Railfan lodging at Cassandra, Pa.

Many railfans know about The Station Inn in Cresson, Pa and The Tunnel Inn at Gallitzin, Pa. However, there is a third lodging location on the West Slope at Cassandra, Pa owned and operated by John Shuniak, who also landscaped and improved the area at the Cassandra Iron Bridge Railroad Overlook. The Motel is on the other side of a bluff from the railroad and within walking distance to the Iron Bridge. I normally stay at The Station Inn in Cresson, but sometimes find it booked up when I need to visit and have resorted to staying at regular chain motels down in Altoona when this happens. I decided to try John's place over Memorial Day weekend and was pleasantly surprised. He has 6 guestrooms, all with private baths, air conditioning, cable TV, small refrigerators and microwaves. I paid $37.50 a night for 1 person with a queen bed. The larger rooms with multiple beds go for $50 a night. So for those that find other lodging choices booked up in the area, or prefer A/C and TV in their rooms, check out John Shuniak's place http://www.cassandrarailroadoverlook.com
