Beer Train Derails
Posted by caldreamer on Thursday, May 24, 2007 2:11 AM

A BNSF train containing tank cars of Coors beer derailed in Devner.  The story below.

Beer Train Derails, Dousing Denver Yard From Associated PressMay 23, 2007 11:35 AM EDT

DENVER - A string of runaway rail cars spilled beer in downtown Denver Wednesday after they crashed into a parked locomotive and derailed.  No one was hurt, and the railroad's mainline operations were not affected, said Steve Forsberg, a spokesman for BNSF Railway, based in Fort Worth, Texas.  Forsberg said a switch engine was assembling a train around 4:30 a.m. when the crew lost control of the 34 cars, which rolled downhill into the stationary locomotive.  A tanker car carrying Coors beer overturned and spilled its contents onto the rail yard, Forsberg said. Another car carrying asphalt was damaged and leaked.  Forsberg did not know how much beer and asphalt spilled.  Two parked locomotives were heavily damaged, and several freight cars were damaged.

Trust me you wouldnot want to drink it it is wort the first step of beer.  It is the stage before it has had the yeast added to it and before it has fermented nasty stuff.

Why would anyone want to drink Coors anyway?  Even Lone Star is better.

The title of this thread had me concerned. But then I found out it was only Coors. Calling Coors beer is a bit of a stretch. I prefer the term, "watered down pantherpiss."

To even think you could put lone star in the same string as coors is a insult to coors. and the other guys on here probley drink that crap called butt wiper. i mean budwiser. and that is a very large streach to call that beer.  the busch brewery in st. louis draws its water straight from the river puts it in the vats then starts chemically purifying the water. to give you that great tasting preimum beer.  oh how great this is until you relize that the brewery sits 1/4 mile down stream from the st. louis treatment plant. dumping crap in the river. oh um... go ahead look that up on google earth search or what ever you call that thing to look from the sky. while having a fresh cold can of the treatment plant......

These days "butt wiper" is marketed heavily in Britain too. Most of the "butt wiper" sold here is also brewed at the former Watneys brewery in Mortlake, near London (where the infamous Watneys Red Barrel beer used to be brewed!). Funnily enough, Mortlake is old English for 'dead' or 'stagnant water'. Say no more!

So what are you two saying, you'd rather drink a girl's ultra light beer-flavored water made from "fresh" mountain spring water that some bear just did his business in next to a hand full of trout getting busy? They only people I've met that drink Coor's don't drink, they just stand around looking pretty with a beer in their hand.

Ahem...at least one of us actually likes Coors....

Anyways, to get this thread back on track (pardon the pun), it seems that the BNSF didn't report this to the Denver Fire Department, and they weren't happy about it. It was reported on the morning news (which means it was at least partially screwed up) that they'll be fined for not reporting the spill.

Just for curiosity, what are the requirements on derailments and reporting them to authorities? Does a RR only have to report it if there is a spill? Or do they have to report anything involving a wheel off the track (which I would guess meant that emergency services must have been really busy in the last days of the Rock Island)?

Chris: Typical over-reaction by City of Denver (they called the wort a hazardous materialLaugh [(-D])...The mechanical forces had an immediate response (happened right outside their door almost at the 1-spot) and the asphalt spill was minimal. The tanks on the two destroyed locomotives did not leak and the small amount of asphalt emulsion didn't go anywhere.

While they did "slightly" exceed the FRA unit of property test (Laugh [(-D]) in damage, the BNSF folks were a little more concerned about other issues. The city had best watch it's step, or some of its nearby skeletons will come out of the closet, much to their embarassment. Cooler heads will prevail and the grandstanding by Denver Fire will go away.

The local news media, of course, went into Distort-The-Facts mode.

Don't you mean some "COOL'S Head" prevailed? And do you really have to report spilling nothing but water? Since when did that cool mountain spring water of CO. become "hazardous" as compared to, oh, I don't know, the Mississippi?

I've had some good American beers from some of the smaller breweries on your side of the pond. Brewing good beer is not something we Brits have a monopoly on by any means. I know quite a few British brewers who think that American hops are the best. Given that some of these brewers are based in Herefordshire, one of the top hop growing counties in England, that's high praise indeed!

I'm making my first visit to Germany in a couple of weeks time so hope to sample some of their best brews!

The Harp that we get in the States is brewed in Canada, and not Ireland, so it is a Canadian brew (same as Fosters and a few others). I believe that some of the kegged Guinness comes out of Canada as well.

Edit: So it wouldn't be "Foster's, mate!", it would be "Foster's, eh!".

Wow, didn't know that! I like Foster's too, but...Wow! And what about American brewed in Brition? Coor's is a girl beer here, do they brew it differently over there? I here Britsh beer (Irish, English, Scottish, even the liquor) is meant to be drank warm. Not here in the States, right? Wow! We prefer cold brew! How different is that?

I still say what we need is an English to English Dictionary. Along with Scots, Irish, Canadaien, Aussie, and NZ. My ancestor's where all Brit. Amazing how we purposfully differentiated ourselves. Now we are lost.

My favorite is Pabst Blue Ribbon followed closely by Old Style.

I haven't figured out why, but Miller gives me the biggest headaches the next day.  I can drink twice as much of any other beer and be fine, but Miller does something to me.  It ruined a trainwatching day and for that, I will never forgive it.  Dead [xx(]
