Photo Where Is It? (SOLVED)
Posted by CopCarSS on Monday, May 7, 2007 8:25 AM

OK, so the past few that I've posted have been more like "Fastest Fingers" questions. I think this one should be a little more difficult, since it's not a railroad any longer, but merely the remnants of one. No clues for now(since there's a couple folks that I think may still get it). Off you go!

For the simpleness of the bridge, and the fact that it's not on wood pilings, I'd guess it was on the Rock Island, somewhere out on the prairie in maybe Kansas of Nebraska?

That's kind of what I had in mind, Murph--too close to Chris and it gets a little bumpier.

But there is some flatland in eastern Colorado-right?

Ah hah...you've found one of the deep truths of the universe, Murph. Eastern CO is indeed non-mountainous, but rather vast rolling plains. It is in Eastern, CO.

A total shot in the dark:  Everytime I've read anything about the Rock Island in Colorado, it mentions that The Rocket(?) split at a forlorn little town called Limon.  I'll guess the photo is taken on the dusty plains, somewhere near Limon, Colorado.Smile [:)]

Chris: The bridge standard ought to be a dead giveaway.  I'm gonna remain quiet on this one (I've worked on the remaining end(s) of this line which was abandoned in the late 1970's..)

Not around Limon. MC, I don't know a whole lot about this line, other than what I could glean off a couple old maps I found around the net. Perhaps once this is solved, you could give us a couple other details?

Rats!  Limon was the only town name I knew.  Are we in the right area?

Kind of, but not really, Murph.

I'd guess you're within a 100-125 mile radius, or thereabouts.

It would appear to be too flat and have too many trees to be up in NE Colorado- how about somewhere in the vicinity of Lamar?  I've never been there, so it's a shot in the dark...

Brian, I'd say you're within 200-250 miles. I'd give you exact distances, but I'm thinking that it might be a bit too easy for someone who speaks 10 language to triangulate the position! Tongue [:P]Wink [;)]

Not Calhan or Peyton.

Well, that tells me enough to know I'm headed the wrong direction, and that my memory of the scenery I saw on my personal travels through the northeast part of the state is faulty...

Brian,

Let's say that I-76 isn't necessarily completely representative of the whole corner that you're thinking about. Your memory is OK. Wink [;)]

Nah, still not that easy.  Alot of territory out there, I would guess that it's somewhere east of I-76, though, and I don't have my 1995 RR map handy here at work for possible clues.
