Glendale councilman concerned about railroad retainer fee
GLENDALE - The CSX Transportation Inc. railroad company now has access to $71,369 of Glendale dollars, with Glendale's approval.
The ordinance was passed by council March 5, but not without opposition from councilmember Alan Hoeweler, who voted no on the ordinance.
The retainer money is for engineering and emergency repairs the railroad might have to make in the event the city works on property next to the tracks and damages something.
Hoeweler asked if there is any way the village can audit work the railroad does to make sure they're doing work and not just handing the village a bill.
Village Solicitor Mike Honerlaw said they have to submit invoices for the work the railroad does.
"It doesn't sit right with me," said Hoeweler.
Village Administrator Walter Cordes said the railroad is allowed by law to debit the village's account for work it has to do as a result of damage caused by the village.
