Neighbors blame trains for damage
KINGSTON - Neighbors of the old Ulster & Delaware Railroad right-of-way in Midtown Kingston want the Catskill Mountain Railroad Co. to give up its idea of running a tourist train along the stretch between Cornell Street and Kingston Plaza and help turn it into a bicycle path.
But Earl Pardini, president of the railroad company that leases the right-of-way from Ulster County, said plans already are in the works to fully repair the tracks and put on special events this summer.
Pardini said the neighbors need to "get used to" having trains pass by their homes, noting that the railroad company's lease runs until 2016. Trains ran on the tracks regularly from 1868 to 1976, he said.
