Rail Truck Hybrid and Urban Congestion
Posted by wallyworld on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 11:46 AM

This topic is based on an earlier thread concerning urban road congestion, intermodal facilities, truck traffic etc. I was then on another website and saw that a manufacturer for model trains had a street system incorporating tracks which guided trucks down a street. Then I thought, hmmm..what about the opposite situation, which brought to mind the displacement of track speeders with flange mounted rail trucks with rubber tires....why not then a delivery truck? This would avoid the age old problem of dedicated transfer facilities...take traffic off the roads...etc.

Then I found this...http://www.lankelma.co.uk/site_pages.php?page=UK12&tohere1=rigs

Interesting concept thats a variation on a theme...could this design be adapted for freight haulage? Would this work, particularly in urban areas, or on lightly used lines? I kept coming back to that great belt line...the EJ&E... hmmm...

Nothing is more fairly distributed than common sense: no one thinks he needs more of it than he already has.
