Do you have model trains too?

Now all of us here on the Trains Magazine forums are railfans and interested in real railroads, but out of curiosity, how many of you have model trains as well?

I have a large HO layout and I also am a collector and operator of vintage prewar and postwar O and S gauge toy trains. That's where the "Tinplater" in my name comes from.

I've got a 6' by 10' HO layout that I've dismantled, moved around the country, and reassembled a few times. It's basically an urban scene with a union station, a good sized freight yard, and urban tunnels even! Power and equipment represent Midwestern lines of the 1950's. My son has his N scale layout right next to mine, so I'm passing on the hobby.

Am in the planning stage of building a dedicated building, 45 by 25 feet in the back.
Been modeling since 1982 or so.

I started out as a kid with car,plane,& truck models and moved into trains because of the ability of the models to move instead of sitting there,(well,most of the time they move). That lead to learning about the prototype,railfanning, and photography.I don't have a home layout but have been a club member since 1983.My collection consists of mostly HO,with a little N scale from a very early layout attempt and generous collection of photos & slides from 1987 to present and growing.Good luck and stay safe,Dan.

Had a 16'x8' ho scale layout now down to 4'x8' but let me find a bigger house with some room and watch out.Matt will be able to help too. he already connects the cars on the track and its hard to get him out of the hoggers seat too!

Oh yes.
The basement garage needed liberating and ceded itself into the 36' x 10' Wye Valley Junction. HO gauge/scale U.S/British (separate hidden staging areas) with up to 3 scale miles on each of 7 separate continuous running tracks. The layout is fully operational. Temporary landscaping (scenery) is in place. Major structures and backdrop design/painting are in progress.

Yes, I am in the process of building about a 12' x 12' N scale layout. Been working on it for about 3 years. Trains are running on the layout, I even decided to go with DCC.

Have a3x5 N-layout hanging from my basement ceiling, the remainer of an O-layout, track, switches, and building kits (some assembled) for HO, and track for guage-1, along with trains in each size. At our church's midweek kidsclub (that I direct with ave. attendance of 15, 3yr.olds to 5th graders) we have a 4x4 HO layout table with mountain which should get the track relayed in the next couple of weeks and then get expanded to 4x12 later. We are assembling an O layout of over 125sq. ft. Have a 5x12ft., 15in.high platform we will put guage-1 track on tomorrow. We painted 3 hollowcore doors brown for N later. And have a working 4x4 layout of Brio style track. Our room is over 25x44. One thing nice about our meeting room is the 4x16 ft. corkbord on one end wall which gave me a place to display my collection of paper, mostly of real trains.

Well i started a layout. It's sort of a moutain town along a NS line with lots of coal trains. I got all the bench work done, the electrical, and some of the scenery. I my locomotives and cars...... but then i ran out of the $$. I guess it's kind of like Amtrak, tring to run a railroad with out any money.

I am currently Super Detailing a locomotive that will have Alternating Ditch Lights, Operating Strobe Light, and Gyrate Head light package!, Plus a sound system and DCC...Will sell for $250

Have lots in boxes, reality has shone I will not have a layout soon, would love to make static display cases. Set up a large floor layout for X-mas 4 years ago with some it. A real layout would never happen.

....Yes, one set in a box...and that's where it's been for about 30 years or so. HO steamer and made in Italy. When I was a youngster of course I had model trains. A Lionel Hudson 027 and a Marx UP passenger 027....with electric switches and crossover and sidings, etc....Long gone now. Transformer had nice big handle that extended over the top of the unit and was nice to operate. Push button switches.

Of course I do! My modest HO empire takes up the majority of three Rubbermaid containers that in spite of the current Mrs. Harmon's repeated efforts have continued to follow us around the world. I recently joined a local club so that I can actually have them run for a distance greater than a three foot straight line. Primarily I spend my time working on the models themselves (usually rebuilding/repairing from moves), so when the day comes when we grow roots I can do something with them. Unless of course I fail to outbid my wife trying to bribe the movers to lose them. [;)]

I forgot to mention in my initial post that some pieces from my toy train collection are on www.geocities.com/tintracks . Right now my basement is kind of divided. Half is the HO layout and the other half is my toy trains. I guess you could say that I have a foot in both worlds.

I have some HO equipment, but it's sitting in the basement of my parents' house. Dad was supposed to build a layout in their new house...8 years ago. I just moved out of my apartment into a house, with a basement, not quite in planning yet...have a lot of cleaning & remodeling to do. Now we're joking about who'll have a layout first.

I have a Lionel 027 No. 1643 Diesel Freight. I received it as a Christmas gift in the early or mid-60's. It has a locomotive with Rock Island markings, two flatcars (one with a satellite launcher), a box car that serves as a coin bank and the caboose with Chesapeake and Ohio markings.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what does a "tinplater" have to do with model railroads?

tin plating was used on toy trains back in the early century.thus the name tinplate.some are rare and very collectable[:)]

i belong to a model rr club. i had an 18x21 loyout but moved and lost the space. still got all the trains and run them on the club layout during shows now. still waiting to put the addition on and build me a good train room.
