Wisconsin & Southern Jan 5 Derailment Pix
Posted by kschmidt on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 6:20 PM

Greetings,

I had a chance to get out to the site of a derailment on the Wisconsin & Southern that happened January 5, 2007 just west of Waukesha, WI at Hwy TT and Hwy 83.  The train was the WSOR HJ.  The track is former Milwaukee Road and was probably close to 100 years old.  I hear from preliminary reports that a broken rail caused the derailment.  Below are some shots from Saturday January 6, 2007.

Here is the aftemath of the derailment.  Someone isn't going to get the corn they wanted

The underbelly of a covered hopper

Some Atlas Snap Track and the line is almost ready to reopen.

A new kind of Jordan Spreader, just put a covered hopper on its side.

Some Wheels, Trucks and Things

Hulcher prepares to leave the derailment site after cleaning up

A couple of shots looking down from Hwy 83 towards the site.

Wow those are some really cool pics you got there. ANd your right I would be mad to if I couldn't get my corn to. But anywho atleast there were no haz-mat concerns with that de-railment.

Very neat shots Keith. It's not often that you see a neat series of photos like that showing a derailment from lots of different angles. Very cool.

Thanks for the great pics.  I didn't even know of the derailment until I saw your post.  I know this was the same stretch of track that they suspect caused the truck of the 25th anniversary SD 40-2 to derail and create a big mess in Waukesha.  Maybe it's time to drop a little CWR?
You think this is bad? Just wait until inflation kicks in.....
