Trolley's going to Portland, OR
Posted by pimpz26 on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 7:02 PM

I was working on a garage door at Petro Lube in York, NE alond I80 today.  Inside the building was a trailer with two trolley cars on it.  I was talking with one of the drivers that was hualing these thing and the only info I got on them was they are going to Portland OR.  Two trolleys fit on one semi trailer.  To me it looked like one articulated unit.  These trolleys are worth $2.5 mil apiece.  They were at the Petro recovering them cause the covers had torn in the heavy winds this morning.  It's the same coverings that cover boats going down the roads, white heat shrink material.  These guys were getting paid $4,500 to recover each trolley, so $9,000 total.  The trolleys appear to have pantographs on the roof, judging by the shape under the covering.

Sorry for the poor picture quality.  I snapped the pics with my phone.  Just above the stop sign you can make out the bottom of the wheels.

Since I never got to see what these things looked like without the covering I can only guess this is close to what they look like.  The trolleys on the trailer I seen had a much more "rounded" and sloped front end.  If anyone has a better picture please share.  I'm very curious what these things look like.
