WHAT?! Grey Paint with Yellow Stripe for UP 6344!
Posted by oskar on Friday, November 17, 2006 8:08 PM

Is this a change of pace for UP? Grey paint w/ yellow stripe?

http://www.railroadforums.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=66630&d=1163808581

I hope they do some more of these, we can give Amour Yellow a rest eh?

I'll bet it would look sharp with the American flag decal, too. Thumbs Up [tup]

Are you sure that isn't just a dark primer grey?

With complete lettering, striping, and emblems?  Looks a little too shiny for primer.

Doesn't UP use grey for its remote control locomotives?

I'm not sure, of course, but I wouldn't think that is it just a primer coat - not with all the other lettering and detail work in place.

Monday at the paint shop.  "That UP 6344 is ready for service, but it seems like we forgot something."

Quite a while back I remember seeing a gray GE with UP lettering.  I don't think it had the wings and I remember having the impression that it looked like an ex-SP with a bigger patch job than usual.

There are RCO control units made out of old GE standard cab units that are gray.  I believe they also are just the carbody and cab, the prime mover fuel tank and traction motors have been removed.

That IS a photoshop. I just did this one recently.

Not that hard to do at all, this took me 5 minutes.

Also, look at the grey lines, and the red striping. Not the best photoshop job.

Ah, shucks!  And that was such a nice looking paint job too.  Do you suppose that someone from UP might see it and make the necessary changes for real?

UP has taken to painting some of their hump pushers in gray.

Most are older ex SP units.

We have a lot of the C30s done like that down here at the hump in Englewood.

I'm not going to debate whether the paint job is real, photoshop or whatever... (maybe it's the work of a really good tagger?) It looks better the SP/UP patched/whatever that big black blob is on the nose is.

It's cool.... It doesn't look like a photoshop job.... but, then I could be wrong.

But that looks cool. I like it.

It is real.

It just got a special paint job. I have seen other pics of this engine, it looks great! Hope they paint more of this color!

Is it possible, that the locomotive is owned by a leasor, and grey is their generic paint color?  Seems it would be easier to lease the unit later, to say, BNSF, if it wasn't Armour Yellow and Harber Mist Gray.Big Smile [:D]

That wouldnt make a difference either way.

But it looks like a really high quality grey paint, as its really shiny and such.

I wonder if Grey Paint is cheaper than Armor Yellow?

I do like it... sorta.

My friend works for the UP. He found out about the new paint scheme. He e-mailed me about it. People. This just might be a "NEW" trend for the Union Pacific. We shall see. The only problem. It's missing the 'New Image' flag scheme.

Hmmm.... I am still skeptical, I will believe it when I see it. Anyone know when it will be through Wyoming?
