Chicago Northwestern schedules
Posted by curtissjoyce on Saturday, November 4, 2006 10:18 AM

I'm trying to do a research paper.  Can anyone help me with the schedules of CNW passenger trains between Chicago and Green Bay, WI around 1966?  Were they all using the gallery cars?  Thanks.

Lets see... I've got a 1942 schedule. Not close.

Ok, here we go... something from '66 in the Northwestern Lines magazine published by the CNW Historical Society. Now that I'm looking at it closer, it's a schedule for service north of Green Bay, not Chicago.

I'll look around some more and see if I can find something. I would suggest trying the CNW Historical Society: www.cnwhs.org. Also, try a google search.

In addition to the schedules two good book sources are The 400 Story by Jim Scribbins, 1982 and Chicago and North Western Passenger Service - The Postwar Years by Patrick C. Dorin, 2000.  While both do not contain schedules from 1966 they do contain text describing the services through the years including 1966.  Not all trains then had gallery cars. The secondary trains had single level coaches.  Usually the train names in the schedule had bi-level applied to it if it used gallery cars.
