I like how the minivan driver sees what's about to happen and backs up...almost looks like he gets clipped by the rig afterwards.
How could the semi driver NOT see the signal OR hear the horns-a-blastin'? Maybe on his cell or fumblin' with his panti-hose?
Watch it again, and slow it down.
He zig zags through the gates.
He knew there was a train coming.
He even manages to drive off with one of the gates on the roof of what is left of his trailer.

Can't the media ever report this type of accident as "the truck drove into the path of the train"?
Do you think the van started to reverse because of the truck's trying to maneuver through the gates or because he/she saw there'd be a collision?

Stuttgart, Arkansas on Union Pacific trackage, formerly the Cotton Belt RR. The crossing looks like one near the Riceland Mill complex. Stuttgart is surrounded by one of the largest rice growing areas in the US.

I work for a distributor of Shell fuel products, and if any one of our company's drivers had pulled a stunt like this, regardless of whether or not the tank was empty, he most certainly would be out of a job. The trucker was not adequately trained or professional enough to check the track both ways and wait for the on coming train. Also he failed to check to see if there is sufficent clearence to get complety clear of the crossing.... provided that it was all clear to cross.
I dont expect to see this driver work a big rig ever again in today's world of safety first with lots of other applicants clamoring to work as a OTR driver.
I dont know about the first video with the covered hopper, I cannot see enough detail to understand about the status of the gates etc. But the behavior of the Minivan indicates he saw the danger in sufficient time to decide what to do and act quickly. That right there shows me that the trucker showed poor judgement. Probably even more so if he or she is a regular hauler out of that facility and ought to know better about that crossing.

That was the MPRPB I think. That was about 3 hours south of here, it was actually a crew that boarded in Dexter, MO. This happened in May or June I believe. Those 2 HLCX units really wiped it out. There are no gates at this crossing in Stuttgart, just signals.
