As you may or may not be aware, back during George Bush Sr's Administration, a bill to allow Mexican Trucks on U.S. Highways was introduced. After Clinton was elected he promptly vetoed it.
Now with Bush Jr. elected he brought the bill back, which resulted in the AFL-CIO filign suit to delay it.
However, time is running out, and when...not if the Trucks are allowed in...will it hurt American Trucking and Railroads?
I feel it will hurt both industries and cost more Americans jobs.
In addition, there is the safety factor as these trucks are not even close to the sub-standard many American 18-wheeler are supposed to attain.
Thus, in the following order...here are the big job killers for Americans right now:
1) U.S. Auto makers continue to move manufacturing to Mexico
2) U.S. Manufacturers continue outsourcing production to China
3) U.S. Corporations outsourcing 1 of every 5 Information Technology jobs to India and Malaysia.

I feel based on the above facts, that loss of American manufacturing hurts the railroads.
Loss of I.T. jobs, means that the largest consumer spending group (I.T. workers) will be spending much less, thus the trickle effect of less consumer spending hurts all industries.
Mexican Trucking means less work for American Truckers...think of it as the transportation Industry's version of I.T. outsourcing to India, i.e. "They can do it cheaper".
What do you think?
Oh yes...the Corporations will make more money and have their stock price go up. But will the Middle Class even have any money to invest at that point due to loss of jobs?
4)
