Two locomotives, one number
Posted by ericsp on Monday, July 24, 2006 10:33 PM

Last week I was driving by the local UP yard and noticed two locomotives with the same number. I though I was going crazy or someone at UP already had (perhaps I should have put this in another thread). Then I figured out one was probably UP while the other was UPY. I noticed that the UPY locomotive left after a day. Perhaps that was too confusing.

Also, the J.D. Heiskell feed mill just north of Tipton, CA. has both of its locomotives number 1886. Both are former BN 1st generation GPs (now repainted).

That would be my guess as well (one was UP and one was UPY).
