The Heritage Paint Schemes of Small Railroads could be applied to the new Yard Switcher Locomotives that the Union Pacific has ordered for 2006 and 2007.

The eggaterated graphic scheme works very well for the Chicago & North Western Scheme. It is great that the Ball & Bar Logo is as large as possible. We can now see the logo from a long distance.
They used a Glossy Deep Green, which is appropriate. Some of the scale models of CNW Locomotives have had a less accurate, much darker green applied. The Union Pacific Licensing Watchers have to crack down on people using the wrong colors for Chicago & North Western replicas. With this unit they can prove their case in court.
Somebody has to get some dark night flash photos so that the retroreflective decals can be seen glowing in the light of the flash.
I wonder if this scheme was as difficult to paint as the previous 4 Union Paciifc Heritage SD70ACe units.

Just a thought, no need to get huffy. I am also still perfecting the craft of modeling these things, so I will not embarass myself by placing pictures of that stuff up here (this being the TRAINS forum and not the Model Railroader forum). Just a thought.

How long before they put a fee on decals?

Not many other railroads are doing this, right? Now if only we could convince Canadian Pacific to do a Milwaukee Road SD70Ace!!!
Not many other railroads are charging a trademark fee either. Its greed, but at least they sugar coated it for you.
Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.

UP is doing this only for trademark reasons, so if I decide to buy a model I have to pay more for the CNW version than I would say an IC verson. It is all just a part of greed on the UP. Bert While there is a lot of truth to the licensing thing, UP could have accomplished that by leaving a unit from each line just patched with a original lines' logo. They chose to spend money on a designer (wether or not we think that they were worth it) and the money to custom paint a unit in something other than the off the shelf UP paint that they buy in bulk and probably get a huge break in price on. How many companies in this day choose to spend money like that? I haven't seen UPS doing a heritage Overnight Truck lines paint scheme on a rig nor probably will we in the future.

It would never happen those anti EMD beaver lovers lol. It would be a ES44AC!! Ha ... I would like to see a UP Central Pacific unit and all the other little railroads out there that they engorged.
10000 feet and no dynamics? Today is going to be a good day ...

Why do you all freak out about how it looks like??? Its a locomotive ... they all look good in fresh paint ... especially with more than two colours. I love seeing colourful unit consists but I could give a crap about how it is all put together. Shut up, don't whine and be grateful that UP is even wasting their money on painting units of railroads they don't even care about anymore.
So when the SP unit comes out ... and are they doing anymore units? ... cause there are more railorads under the UP name ... don't whine and be happy you have these heritage units at all.
I think it looks very good, and compliments the other units in the series. Unlike most here, I like what UP is doing with these heritage units. Sure, the paint isn't the same as what the original roads used, but where's the fun in that? This way, UP proudly shows support for the roads which are now a part of the UP system.
I ditto the above remark that the SP heritage unit should be done in the Black Widow.
I'm not sure if I like it... I think that I want to see it at speed in person before I pass any final judgement. Is the other side painted the same? I like the fact that UP is doing this heritage series. What no Central Pacific unit??
With the CNW unit I really like the "Employee Owned" bar and ball logo on the front (although it's where I requested the bell be placed). I thought that was a very nice touch. The contridiction is that the heritage series units tend to be painted in a very bold way. The Northwestern kept the paint schemes simple. A simple lightning stripe on a few Dash 9's was about as bold as the Northwestern got with their diesel engines. I'm surprised that the paint scheme didn't incorporate some of the bolder schemes used on the Northwestern stream-lined steam engines of the 1940's. Also, unless I;m not seeing it, it would have been a nice touch to add the Route of the 400 logo somewhere. (Maybe the UP wanted to keep it freight only.)

I'm glad to see that UP is taking the time to do this for the general public. I think all the "Heritage Units" have been awesome. I just think that they don't have to do this, but they do.
I have to vote that it's pretty darn good.. Just wished CSX could do the same. I would love to see what could be done with the L&N on one. Would even like to see what they could do with the Chessie System colors. NS has one out there with the Southern colors.

Ah, er--
No thanks.
I was hoping that the livery would be almost identical to that of the last CNW AC4400CW's.
G** help us all when UP tries to do a Heritage livery based on the Southern Pacific livery....

looks good cant wait 4 tha SP unit but wish they would do a SSW and Rock Island unit
Blah, gurrgle, blop!
After that photo I almost threw up! C&NW was more creative on their normal paint sceme that Union Pacific's Heritage paint sceme!
Oh well. Can't have everything you want.
