BNSF leasing CEFX SD90MAC

Got word yesterday that BNSF was leasing out the CEFX SD90MACs. So I got on my work web site and sure enough they are on the roster. CEFX 123-139 are on the computer system. And even right now a ATMSUD load out at Morrill NE. has 3 of them on that train and the 123 is the DP unit linked with a BNSF 5713 so they are compatible with our units.
Wish BNSF had bought some SD90MACs back when they came out. Those are some pretty sweet looking units.

They are just the 4300 hp models. BNSF must be pleased they did not get any of the 6000 hp models.

120-139 have been leased by CP since they were built.

It looks to me they will just be used for coal service. There is about 2 of them in Alliance 6 of them were already on coal trains, 1 is in Lincoln, 1 in KC, 1 in Centerialla. So it looks to me they will be used just for coal trains.

You will be getting 25 CEFX AC4400CWs starting next week too. CP terminated the lease on CEFX 1001 - 1025, as of tomorrow. They are supposed to be going to BNSF also.

It will be nice to see more solid red consists - I take it they were replaced by the new order of GEVOs?
How are the remainder of CP SD40-2s holding out? You NEVER see them on the mainline out west...

The big killer has been the reduced production out of Elk Valley Coal, plus lower than normal Potash shipments. Things are so slow that OUWs are a lot less common these days. SD40-2s are quite common on the former Soo Line.

I've seen the odd SD40-2 running on the CPR Mainline through Winnipeg, usually paired with SOO GP38's. Even the odd GP9 on the branchlines too.

Paducah and Louisville are leasing some of the CEFX SD90's, 120 and 122 were two of them that I know of. I think they're being used to haul their radioactive waste trains out of Paducah.

Were these the ones that CP/UP use or are these the second group that didn't get leased? I thought that there were like 25 or so that were unleased and sitting.

CEFX has 40 SD90MACs numbers 100 - 139. All were leased 100 - 119 are leased to UP, 120 - 139 were leased to CP. Early on two of the second group were briefly leased to the Vermont Rwy. The current situation is UP has 100 - 119, P&L has
120 - 122, and BNSF has 123 - 139.

The SD40-2s haul locals, transfers and unit grain trains here in Southeastern Wisconsin. They're doing great, a few nights ago I saw a pair of them heading a grainer overtake an AC4400 on a mixed freight. There was also a CN Draper SD40-2 and a pair of SOO SD60s also hanging out around the western suburbs earlier this summer.

Trainmaster Curt, the CP still uses GP9s in up in Canada? I'll have to keep an eye out next time I'm back home in Toronto.
