Actually, there is no provision on the forum for you, or anybody else to lock a thread.  Only Bergie can do that.  The thread will disappear on it's own, if people stop posting on it.Wink [;)]Wink [;)]

Did I miss something?

Why destroy a thread if people are using it? (even if it is of this dreaded type)

  Just curious is all....

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

Yes, both the former NYC 4-track right-of way through the city of Rochester and the West Shore Branch are used daily for freight trains.  Obviously Amtrak must go through the city to make the station.  Rochester Yard is busy with business for local customers, although not as busy as it once was.  There are still customers along both routes and the Charlotte Branch which runs North to the lake.

Yes, both the former NYC 4-track right-of way through the city of Rochester and the West Shore Branch, well south of downtown running roughly parallel to Jefferson Road) are used daily for freight trains.  Obviously Amtrak must go through the city to make the station.  Rochester Yard is busy with business for local customers, although not as busy as it once was.  There are still customers along both routes and the Charlotte Branch which runs North to the lake.  The ends of the West Shore are CPs (Controlled Points):  East one is CP 359, West one is CP 382.  I have forgotten the mileposts on the West Shore Branch, but I can look them up if necessary.

Well, here's a blast from the past! How did this manage to make it to the top of the list again?

This thread came back with several different names apparently.  But there is nothing wrong with paying tribute to CR, still was a good railroad to watch.

Some of my earliest memories, other that Penn Central, was of course Conrail.

It took three years..?  Apparently it's surviving because of a different name, the first part is locked.   On a related note, CSX apparently has stopped running trains on the local main line here.  At least whenever my friend and I have gone as of late we have seen NOTHING.  It is annoying, you would think after several tries there would be a reason to hang out by the tracks but we are giving up and going to Altoona.

There is something about an SD40-2 in Conrail Blue......  I saw one on the IHB about 3 weeks ago, still in good shape.  Funny thing, under the cab window, it was lettered "PRR", I can't remember the locomotive number, however, and I didn't immortalize it in my digital archives either.  For some reason, I like the Conrail paint scheme...... maybe because I like blue, I don't know...
