I will look on Youtube researching for 844 videos tomorrow. I know there are several 3895's from the last tour that was particularly good.

I am going to try and attach a couple of shots that we got as they appproached Marysville KS and another that my 11 year old son took in Steele City NE. I also have a 10 mintute video file that runs about 100 meg that I would be glad to share if anyone feels like sending a blank cdr to me.

I will gladly copy it off in .wmv format and mail it back to you. If you want a copy mail me a blank cdr and include an envelope and postage for me to send it back to you. Granted it is our first attempt at something like this, but my boys were pretty proud of our efforts. Also it might not hurt to shoot me an email so that I know it's coming. (ggnutsc@alltel.net) or (ggnutsc@nppd.com)

I am going to have to work for a while on posting the pictures (at leat until I figure out how to do ti easily)... If anyone had any quick tips now would be the time to offer them... I haven't had to post any pics before so I am new to the process.

My sons ( ages 15 & 11) and I caught them as they were coming into Marysville KS on Tues. There was a 1/2 hour scheduled stop in Marysville and we were able to get ahead of it and get some more pics and video at Steele City NE. Then some more as they backed into the old Rock Island depot (now a museum) in Fairbury NE where they service and stayed for the night.

We got in such a hurry leaving at Marysville that I left my scanner and camera case there. We didn't discover that this had happened until we got to Steele City, so I had to leave my boys in charge of the video and my digital camera hoping that they would get some good shots while I drove approx 44 miles back to get my case and scanner.
(88 miles round trip)

Thankfully my brother was chasing too, and was able to meet my boys and drive them on to Fairbury wher we met up again. I was not disappointed in any of the shots that they got.

If I get a chance I will try to get them posted somehow...... We already downloaded the video and still shots into Windows moviemaker and put in titles and a sound track on it. It came out pretty neat for a first attempt at it all. unfortunately it runs about 10 minutes and is close to 100 meg in size. That's the big downer it's too big to share easily.....

I know some of us (like myself) are still using film cameras and may not have had our film developed as yet (like myself). So I am going to keep this thread going for a few days in hopes that people will continue to post some of their photos here.

I know some of you took some night shots. It would be nice to see some of them here. Also, if you took video of the 844 and can post a website link for us, then please do so.

This may be your last chance this year to see it, depending upon when and where they run next.

It certainly has been a nice trip this time.

I am sure many of us are looking forward to their next steam trip.

Like I told somebody, the last time I saw it, I was 6, that was in 1996. I got to ride it for 3 miles, but I didn't really remember the sound or feel of it, I remember the look from pictures, but the sound and heat cannot be duplicated by any video. So, this time I gave it another shot, I remember it very well now.

Thank you. The camera I used was a Canon PowerShot A80 4 mp.

The metal plates on the pilot were later applied to the sides of the "cow catcher." For what reason I don't know. Hopefully someone here can answer that question.

Edit: Wait a minute on the plates. I just checked another picture I took of it, and the plates cover the pilot steps. I guess to keep people from climbing on the front of it.

That is a great picture. Just out of curiosity what camera did you use to shoot?

I see they have what appears to be plate metal in the area below the smokebox door resting atop the cowcatcher... err.. pilot. Anyone know if they were put there during maintaince?

UP 844 pulled into Kansas City Union Station around 5pm yesterday, which was ahead of schedule.

Sunday's Schedule

1st Morning Leg -- Claremore, OK, to Coffeville, Kansas

2nd Morning Leg -- Coffeville, Kansas, to Duran, Kansas

Afternoon Leg -- Duran, Kansas to Kansas City, Missouri

It arrives in KC about 6 pm depending on traffic flow during the day.

I believe it was pretty close to the I-40/Levy exit. I am not sure. The geography sure looks like it as the tracks run along that one road that I woukld use to get down to the turn off towards the Towbin VA Facility.

Hey Richard

If you get a chance please do us all a big favor. There was a question as to IF the 844 had cab signals. Well, it does. Their is a indicator on the fireman's side just above eye level. If you get a chance would you take a photo of it and post it here. It is possible there is another indicator on the engineer's side but I am not sure about that. So if you could also check on that and let us know it would be greately appreciated.

Thanks Richard for pointing that out. I had not had my morning coffee yet when I posted first thing this morning. [B)]

My wires were crossed because they usually go from NLR to Van Buren all in one day. For some reason they changed it this trip. That might have been a good thing though because they left NLR 30 minutes late and were running behind schedule all day Friday. The Van Buren sub is pretty busy and they had the 844 wait for several train headed to NLR.

Great Pictures.

I caught it already turned and ready to leave North Little Rock while on the I-30 overpass at about 8:20. I was not in position to get any video on it.
