Centennial of New Haven Electrification

In July of 1907, the New Haven commenced the operation of trains propelled by hi-tension AC. The motive power was locomotives designed with traction motors that operated on Alternating Current.

By coincidence, in July 1907, the exalted railroad electrifcation engineer, Frank Sprague, composed a paper that implied that any attempt to operate a "main-line" railroad with Alternating Current would result in failure.

The electrification of the Main Line of the PRR , circa 1937,confirmed that the New Haven had established an electrification system that would be sucessfull on any railroad in the World.

I have collected a substantial amount of documentation of the New Haven electrification , and the power source, the Cos Cob Power Plant, which has been designated an "Engineering Landmark".
