An east-bound Norfolk Southern freight train made an emergency stop Sunday night after hitting debris on the tracks at the east edge of Fairfield. The train apparently ran into a tree that fell across the tracks No one was hurt.

Storm Information:
The Governor has activated the State Emergency Operations Center in Springfield to deal with widespread damage from Sunday night's storms. Department of Transportation workers were called out to clear debris from the roadways.

Teams of National Weather Service officials fanned out across the tri-state today to assess the damage from a series of storms that moved across the region Sunday night. Officials at the Weather Service office in Paducah say they will be trying to determine if tornadoes or straight line winds were responsible for Sunday night's widespread damage.

Plus: While driving around town after school, I drove south of the Assembly of God church down by the NS grade crossing. That is when I discovered the plow of a locomotive just laying off to the side. Sorry, at this time I don't have a picture of it. It was really neat though. I've never seen the plow completely detached from the locomotive. I guess they had to remove it because of the damage the tree caused.
