Kinzua Bridge Collapses

As of this writing, (21:15 CDT) the Weather Channel is showing footage of the collapsed bridge. The item will surely repeat a few times throughout the evening.

More detailed information about the kinzua Viaduct can be found in Bill Middleton's book, "Landmarks On The Iron road." The fact that some of its spans were blown down by the wind is not surprising considering it was in a weakend condition to begin with. I wonder whether it was the impact of a high speed wind gust or a vortex shedding vbration generated by a steady wind that caused some of its spans to collapse.
