Yeah, a look at CSX can be scary. I remember a spot on the River line near Bear mountain with one of the nastiest joints I ever saw, and this of course is the main route around here. I have heard that CSX is noted for poor maintenance.

It look's like csx forget to put in tieplates & spikes in. I have seen worse than that where i live in Rochester, NewYork some of CSXT tracks are so bad that you see trains boundsing up & down doing 60-80MPH very scary.

I agree, it certainly looks bad!!! But all the track components are doing what they're supposed to do, and at some point somebody's gonna go down there and say "you know, we really oughta fix this..." I just hope it's not after one of those track components fails to do its job...

I don't know what else you expect from CSX whose management never goes out to see what's going on the way NS management does. They just try to run everything sight unseen - never seen - from Jacksonville. They keep coming up with new slogans to describe their new operating Plans which were created in Jacksonville - without going out to see what's going on - sort of a vicious cycle.

Wow, no surprise these kinds of issues never gets fixed. Why don't railroad just give guns to engineers to shoot on sight any trespassing railfan who may notice the problem. The hell with public safety, you've got a ton of lawyers and money to cover up the cousequences. Gotta love America!

Well, after living 18 years around the welded rail mainlines in W and NW metro Atlanta, it is nice to hear the "click-clack" of the wheels on jointed rails in the vi--wait a second--I mean it is nice to hear the "click-clack-boiing, click-clack-boiing" in the video.

Well, I sat trackside at a crossing and waited for a very slow freight that looked very much like the first clip. Our tracks are inspected a lot and I imagine that this was eventually fixed. But the trains went slowly (still do) up and down this track and as long as it wasn't broken (like the one we saw at another place) it didn't seem to cause a lot of alarm. (only in me!) So tell Dad, it does happen. Probably more than the railroaders would like. I should get some video of the coal cars AND engines that rock on our soft ground going in and out of town. That's a thrill!

On the other hand he may have been using a telephoto lens and never got on railroad property. Or maybe he is a railroad employee but doesn't want to create problems on his job by exposing this situation. Or who knows how many other scenerios might be at work here. I have run trains on worse track than that and that track is in service and handles haz-mat . also long and very heavy trains. but the main problem i see here is a foamer on private property ( probley one of those that swears he never tresspasses and wonders why he gets rude responses from workers) taking photos of the track in harms way. I have seen no mention on here about this ( except sam shooter) this guy should have been arrested.

O.K. all you wannabe regulatory "holier-than-thou's", YOU interpret the 100 foot rule and what constitutes a public street or highway (crossing surface or R/W width ) [?] I prefer to avoid designating excepted track and when forced to, will make every attempt to make that track Cls. 1 up to 100 feet out from the R/W line. Tough call. What saves the issue is tangent track and low speed on moderately heavy rail (over 90#).[;)]

What scares me every day is what public road agencies get away with around road crossings. If CSX is the focus of what's wrong here, there ought to be hordes of public roadway officials that need to join them in the hoosegow.[soapbox][soapbox][soapbox]
